[RP Pic] "This old, echoing church is like this decrepit City; decaying. Yet someone keeps its central functions going. The communion table is pristine, the wine and the Host are tended lovingly, obviously by someone with great reverence for what they represent. Someone else who chooses to continue their function here in this awful, miserable place."
"Someone who also believes that life has a higher calling than the mere needs of survival.."
One of the many beautiful stained glass windows in the St. Josaphat Basilica in Milwaukee. Imported from Innsbruck, Austria, they were installed in 1902.
A renaissance style communion altar at the Swedenborgian Church of San Francisco. The main theme in this little church in the Pacific Heights area of SF is the presentation of natural objects, especially of the woods and forests.
Built in 1895, the Swedenborgian Church at the corner of Washington and Lyon Streets in Presidio Heights, San Francisco, is a National Historic Landmark. Warm and wooded, it was designed and constructed by prominent artists and architects of the 'Arts and Crafts' movement and is regarded as one of California's earliest buildings in that style.

Raffy my firstborn, celebrated his 1st communion on 9 April:
Now he is following throughout the Catholic religion, then reached the right age to really understand and be able to decide seriously, he will choose whether to contiune or not, with this part.
I have a somewhat difficult relationship with the catholic religion: in the sense that, I belive that a god exists, but unfortunately I do not agree with the laws of the church!
That, I'm not here to list, they seem to me sometimes absurd and against my principle "scientistic" of the world and human evolution.
On the other hand such absurd, I belive in spirituality, meditation and belive in the beauty of every single man...that spiritual beauty that makes us so different between us, so unique and important...Apart from God in which we belive!
Also because I belive that each of us is "attached" to the roots of place was...
If all of us were born elsewhere in the world, many of our securities would be quite different...and therefore, why not belive that, rather all of our religions, lurks a pinch of truth behind that charm?
With this I didn't want to discriminate absolutely none, also because I have not jet found a religion that meets my criteria, absolutely...that leave me without doubts...
and I don't know if this exists!!!
(and don't want nobody feels offended by my words, also because It is a very personal concept.)
Thank you all for attention and affection that express always, in respect of my photos ^_^

A first communion cake in blues and browns. The bible, chalice, hands and rosary are all fondant. Inside was chocolate cake with custard filling and vanilla cake with oreos 'n cream.
"We find this movement of faith, too, in Holy Communion, if we’re open to it, because the Eucharist teaches us and transforms us to become Christ, so that we don’t just believe in him but grow to know him intimately. So, St Augustine imagines the Lord saying to him: “I am the food of grown men; grow, and you shall feed upon me; nor shall you change me, like the food of your flesh, into yourself, but you shall be changed into me”. For what happens is that because we love Christ and his Word of truth, and, in faith, we remain in him, so he will remain in us, and unite us to himself. So, as Pope Benedict put it: “We never have [truth]; at best it has us”. And when Truth, God himself, has us, when we’re possessed by Love, then we enjoy eternal life!"
The rest of my sermon for today can be found here.

This Leonardo Da Vinci picture of the Last Supper was traditionally used for First Holy Communion. This was mine from many years ago
This is Master Alfred (or perhaps Frederick) Forte of 17 Broad Street, Waterford, pictured in his Holy Communion outfit. It's pure coincidence as I chose this photo a few days ago, but all over Ireland today children are "making their Communion".
Found this: "Uncle Charlie moved to Ireland in the late 1930s and married Emilia Magliocco, also from Mortale. They had a restaurant in Waterford and a beach cafe at nearby Tramore until the late 1940s, when they returned to Brighton. They had four children, Alfonso, Filomena, Frederick and Michael" from the Brighton Fortes site.
Date: 1945?

My oldest munchkin is having her First Holy Communion at the 5pm Mass on Saturday. We're all pretty excited! It is 2am, and I just finished and photographed the cake. Phew!
Thank you all so much for your awesome comments on my photos. I'm so very sorry that I haven't been able to visit your streams for quite a while. It's hard to get more than little snatches of time on the computer, lately. I LOVE YOU, FLICKR FRIENDS!!!
