Standing at my back door one day, I watched the baby squirrel on the ground while Mom stood guard from above. The little one became frightened and ran up to where mom was waiting. She hugged and comforted her baby in such a loving way. The affection and interaction was so heartwarming.

These wild sea lions were sleeping on a dock in the harbor of Crescent City, California. It was so touching how they would snuggle up and use each other as pillows.

Every once in a while, a new sea lion arrived on the dock and there would be a big commotion with snarling and growling and apparent disagreements - but 30 seconds later they would all be piled up in a harmonious heap like this!

This is our resident rabbit in our backyard. He is enjoying this winter thaw we are having and helping himself to a few plants poking their heads out through the small mounds of snow leftover. He let me come close, stood stock still for several minutes and then went about chewing on the buffet. I was pleased he was comfortable with me being so close. My home is his home.
