Canyon Lake Dam, Comal County, Texas - A quick afternoon visit to Canyon Lake, a US Corps of Engineers flood control project north of San Antonio. Built about fifty years ago, the dam provides much-needed flood control for the region, as well as water preservation for the local communities. Because it is nearby to San Antonio and Austin, Canyon Lake is also a very popular recreation area for boating, fishing, camping and hunting.
Just a quick afternoon visit in April 2008, walking across the top of the dam and back. Then down to the Guadalupe River South Trail, which starts at the base of the dam and twists along the riverbanks to some nearby sports fields. I'll add some more description and information at a later date.
