The QWCTU continues its ascent of Beaumont Hill as it crosses Live Oak Canyon Road. This is one of the better-lit spots to shoot an afternoon eastbound climbing the hill.

Photographer Harrop was never one to shy away from a grueling hike to gain elevation in the river canyons of the west. Who needs a drone when you have strong legs and the will to climb to the mountain top?

 

On the last day of spring in 1991, Amtrak's California Zephyr train No. 6 glides downstream on the D&RGW through the "Gooseneck" east of Kyune in Price Canyon, Utah.

A vertiginous climb up to a small cave. Just when I was feeling proud having made it--with dust on all appendages and a scraped knee--three Mennonite ladies in unscathed long dresses arrived! I would have loved to have photographed them but I don't think they would have relished the attention.

Rock climbing within City of Rocks National Reserve, over 100,000 visitors in this park each year, most rock climbers.

From our October long weekend away to the Granite Belt. Here we climbed the granite rock formation known as The Pyramid in Girraween National Park up the direct route. It is very steep.

NCRC 6795, 2225, and 6326 climb out of Osceola, Nebraska with the Platte Valley Turn. The job isn't really a turn anymore only going one direction between Grand Island and however far necessary on the Stromsburg Sub Monday-Saturday.

The next day we climbed the one on the right. The peaks are Batian, Nelion and Point Lenana.

You got a dream... You gotta protect it...

State highway 36 climbs through Emigration Canyon to a summit above Strawberry Spring, Idaho. The trees on the ridge above the road had a beautiful coat of new snow.

Several reports have indicated that Amtrak is planning to add another sleeper and another coach to the Zephyr for Spring and Summer of 2025. While the westbound Zephyr has had a handful of runs with eight Superliners in the past few weeks, at the moment, it is still typically only running with seven. It is seen here, climbing the north edge of Big Ten Curve.

It is a mostly cloudy morning, although still quite warm at 82°F, as the morning Zephyr climbs the north edge of Big Ten Curve westbound.
