The Good City is Bicycle Innovation Lab's international travelling exhibition.
It focuses on the challenges Copenhagen faces as a cycling city and explores the possibilities inherent in cycling as a platform for change towards better cities with less congestion and better living spaces.

Gorky Park gate from accross the road. The lads in the green service caps and berets are former border guards in the Russian army - it is their professional holiday today. Naturally, it's a great excuse for many of them to get drunk and disorderly - that explains a lot of police on the streets.

Kapchagai Reservoir, is a major reservoir in Almaty Province in southeastern Kazakhstan, approximately 60 kilometres north of Almaty. The 140 kilometre long lake is formed by a dam on the Ili River which flows from the mountains in the east towards Lake Balkhash to the northwest. It is named after the town of Kapchagai, which is located on its western bank. During the summer months the lake attracts a number of tourists from Almaty, who frequent its beachy shores on the weekends.
I'm not sure what to think about the new City Center. We joked that these buildings look like something out of the movie Inception.

Originally built as a hotel, The Mark was designed in a neo-Italian Renaissance-style by architects, Schwartz and Gross. The fifteen-story structure is faced with red bricks and sits in the shadow of the Carlyle Hotel. Schwartz and Gross also designed The Fitzpatrick Manhattan Hotel and the Surrey Hotel at 20 East 76th St.
The hotel for many years was known as The Mark Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
According to a Mandarin Oriental press release dated January 2, 2006 it sold its 100% leasehold interest in The Mark, New York, for a gross consideration of US$150 million to Izak Senbahar and Simon Elias (Alexico Group). The hotel was originally acquired in 2000 as part of the US$142.5 million acquisition of The Rafael Group.
The hotel closed in 2007 and reopened in August 2009 as a hotel/co-op following a $250+ million makeover with 118 hotel rooms, and 42 co-op apartments. Prices for the co-ops range from $2 million to $60 million.
The hotels penthouse at 9,800 feet contains 5 bedrooms and 4 woodburning fireplaces and is listed for $60 million. Its living room is topped by a copper cupola, part of the original 1926 structure.
The Mark Hotel does not own the land it sits on - the annual land lease payment is $4 million.
Developer of the Mark Hotel, the Alexico Group, brought in chef Jean-George Vongerichten to run the 1st floor restaurant and designer Jacques Grange to reimagine the lobby and create 42 residences. The Alexico Group also developed the Alex Hotel at 205 East 45th Street.
The Alexico Group also operate The Laurel Hotel at 400 East 67th Street and recently bought the Flatotel Hotel on E. 51st St. with plans to turn it into another luxury property
The Real Deal reported in April 2010 that the Alexico Group has scaled back the co-op offerings from 42 units to 10 units due to a lack of demand.
Alexico had borrowed $255 million from Anglo Irish Bank for the project.
In March 2011 Dune Real Estate Partners acquired Anglo Irish Bank's $255 million mortgage loan on the Mark Hotel for $190 million. In june 2011 Dune Real Estate Partners filed to foreclose on loans granted to the Alexico Group's Mark Hotel.
The Irish Times reported the developers Simon Elias and Izak Senbahar of the Alexico Group are suing Anglo Irish Bank for $1 billion in a funding dispute over $500 million of loans that the bank gave to the men to redevelop three Manhattan hotels, the Mark, the Alex and the Flatotel.

We were driving home that night, so late it had turned over to the morning. And the wheels were turning too. Over and over again. After we had made our ways past a bridge, the lights started shining. A halo shone bright around the city with two huge lights piercing the sky. Every building was dotted with lights--in the windows, on the huge openings on the facades and on the lamp posts. The stars faded and were nameless to pay tribute to this, the great metropolis of lights.
This necklace is made from rhinestone trim removed from a 1950s garment. Each of the 13 individual pieces of fringe is wired and douible wired to insure that this won't unravel. Because of its delicate, antique nature, please wear delicately. There are almost a thousand rhinestones on this necklace. It is set to be a delicious bib fringe and it is soo luxe to wear! A rhinestone ball from the thirties is added to the back to dangle down the back of your neck. Brass chain and lobster clasp.
The shortest fringe is 3inches/7.5cms.
The longest fringe is 6.25inches/15.5cms.
The necklace is adjustable from 19.75-22.25inches or 50-56.5cms. This can be lengthened or shortened at your desired length.
This is a scan of a photo taken in the early 1990s in Baltimore Cemetery. The crypt had been opened by vandals and I took the plunge down into the dark depths and took this photo in the pitch dark. Yep, I had chills when I saw the picture for the first time.

The show of Raveleijn.
Raveleijn
Ravelin (or "Raveleijn" in Dutch) is a theatre at the Efteling amusement park in the southern Netherlands. It was designed by Sander de Bruijn at a total cost of 30 million Euros and opened its doors on April 8, 2011.
Raveleijn is a multifunctional complex with, amongst others, a theatre, conference hall, restaurant and offices. The main part of Raveleijn is the arena where 5 shows (30 minutes) are performed per day. The open-air arena has a capacity of 1,200 visitors on a total of 1450 m2. The cast has 10 members and the music was composed by René Merkelbach and Het Brabants Orkest with vocals by Anneke van Giersbergen and others. The pen for the animals (5 horses, 1 owl, 1 falcon and 5 ravens) is located next to the parking area. Another main show element is a five-headed, mechanical dragon named draconicon.
The story was written by Paul van Loon and tells the tale of the Woudenberg family of seven who move to the edge of a forest. The children discover an old city gate in the forest, where a tyrant oppresses the people. As it turns out, the five kids have the special gifts needed to fight the tyrant. This story has also been made into a Book, as well as a 12-part miniseries, where more of the plot is revealed.
The show got an update from 30 April 2013 and after, still using the original tale, but with a new decor and some script changes. This new show is produced in partnership with the French theme park Puy du Fou which is renowned for its large open air park shows.
The show starts with the father of the Woudenberg family, walking among the visitor seats saying he has lost his children. After that the main show starts, four of the Children (Thomas, Maurits, Emma and Lisa) walk up to the gate of Ravelin, read the text on the gate, and walk through it. They emerge again, now older, on horses and in armour. They meet up with their younger brother Joost, who says he had discovered the gate before them.
Countess Halina warns them that a falcon is coming, announcing the arrival of the evil count Olaf Grafhart. The count emerges from the water and asks what they are doing in his city. Thomas, the oldest brother, says they are here to free the people of Ravelin of his rule. The count calls his guards, and when Halina stands up for the siblings, he makes her disappear. A fight ensues.
When the siblings emerge victorious, count Olaf calls on his Draconicon, which emerges from the foliage. Thomas calls on his brothers and sisters to make use of their elemental powers, which they got from their weapons. After Draconicon is defeated, the siblings surround count Olaf and Countess Halina is returned. The count is driven back into the water by Halina, and disappears. The siblings go back through the gate, and emerge again in their normal clothes. Here they are also reunited with their dad, and the show ends.
