The Citadel of Ashdod is an Iron Age archaeological site on the Mediterranean coast of Israel in southern part of the modern city of Ashdod. The site is mentioned in documents from the time of Sargon II of Assyria when in 713 BCE the Assyrian king speaks that he took over control of the city of Ashdod and had fortified it.

Aleppo's citadel has a huge court in its upper quarters. This is where the rule held his office. Beautiful and very delicate woodwork with colored windows interact in a magnificent manner. Very difficult to capture without HDR.

Umayyad Palace, Amman Citadel, Jordan. Part of the palace was built over pre-existing Roman structures, around 730, when Amman was a provincial capital. The complex probably combined the residential quarters of the governor of Amman with administrative offices / Palácio Umayyad, Cidadela de Amã, Jordânia. Parte do palácio foi construído sobre as estruturas romanas pré-existentes, em torno de 730, quando Amman era uma capital provincial. The Citadel of Salah ad-Din or Saladin was built between 1176 and 1183 as a place to defend Cairo from the Crusaders but the fort was never used as the Crusades never went into Egypt. The seat of government remained in the Citadel until 1860.

The huge Citadel (11km around the outer wall) where the 13 kings of Vietnam ruled from 1802 to 1945. The last king abdicated at the end of the Second World War after the Japanese were kicked out and Ho Chi Minh took over. Most of the citadel area was destroyed during the Tet Offensive in 1968. There are three layers in the Citadel, each surrounded by a moat – the outer layer, and the inner layers which include the Imperial City and the Purple Forbidden City. The King occupied the centre layer. The area is being reconstructed gradually. The gardens are extensive and include many large and ancient bonsai plants.
