JITOA joined the Citadel Amman in celebration of Jordan Earth Hour as part of Don't mess with Nature لا تعبث بالطبيعة Initiative “Turn off the lights campaign” طفي الضو حملة supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities – Department of Antiquities with public and private sector participation from the Jordan Travel & Tourism, and Hospitality sector. The site was candle lit for one hour being one of the remarkable archeological iconic sites in Jordan and the city of Amman; to demonstrate the importance of conserving nature and archeology marking Jordan on the Earth Hour Map
Within the citadel walls lies the cathedral designed by Lorenzo Gafa, built between 1697 and 1711. Unfortunately it was covered in scaffolding. At the time it was constructed, money was in short supply so its dome was never erected, but this imperfection was brilliantly disguised by an Italian painter, Antonio Manuele. In the interior of the Cathedral he created a magnificent trompe l'oeil painting that shows the interior of a dome in full splendor.

Hue—the Citadel at night. The Tet offensive in 1968 marked a turning point in the Vietnam War, and some of the most important fighting took place in Hue and at the Citadel. This is only a very small part; It’s a big place, maybe a mile square, and its walls are several meters thick. Today it’s a major tourist attraction.

Most of the mound (apart from one) had been abandoned recently so the government can renovate it. The government has plans to move back 50 families once the renovation is over.
