This was the view across the rooftops of the city of Aleppo, Syria from the top of the mighty & ancient Citadel. I was there in 2010 , with no sign of unrest & before the tragic civil war began .As I look at this view ,I wonder what this looks like today .....when all I ever see of Aleppo is broken buildings & heaps of rubble.
Why is mankind so destructive & hurtful???

This Citadel was originally built by the Ottoman Empire (876-884) A.H and occupied by the French during Napoleon Bonaparte's campaign in Egypt and Syria between 1798-1801. It stood on the left bank of the Nile a couple of kilometres north-east of Rashid (Rosetta) on the north coast of Egypt.
The Spandau Citadel (German: Zitadelle Spandau) is a fortress in Berlin, Germany, one of the best-preserved Renaissance military structures of Europe. Built from 1559–94 atop a medieval fort on an island near the meeting of the Havel and the Spree, it was designed to protect the town of Spandau, which is now part of Berlin. In recent years it has been used as a museum and has become a popular tourist spot. Furthermore, the inner courtyard of the Citadel has served as an open air concert venue in the summertime since 2005.
Some more progress. Adding cables & Combine walls, widened the middle gap to represent the Citadel's 'active' state for a bit more visual interest. Currently planning on a 32x32 base for stability & surrounding landscape.
Banteay Srei.....Angkor temple ,Cambodia.
This temple ,dedicated to Shiva,is a stunning `tour de force` of classical art & believed to be the instigator of the Khmer art movement. Though much smaller than its more famous counterparts, this ,for me , was the jewel of the whole Angkor temple complex.
The Citadel of Jerusalem as iappears today, is a wall, reinforced by five large towers .It occupies the area where Herod's three towers once stood. He had them built around 24 B.C.and named them after his brother Fasel ,his friend Ippicus and his wife. They were so magnifycent that when the Roman
legions destroyed Yerusalem in 70 A.D.the Emperor Titus left them standing to show future generations
their beauty. The towers however ,did not survive the Emperor Hadrian ,who ordered them torn down in
135A.D.and left only the enormous bulk of the foundations.

Taken on a very busy day at Carlisle. I couldn't believe how much variety there was within just a few hours.
This is the last of my Colossal Castle Contest entries (number 6). The Fantasy Fortress category really intrigued me, and I hoped to have more time to make an entry for it, but still had fun with this small citadel. The colorscheme was definitely inspired by John’s Gondolin build.
Not all Dwelfs (a smaller than average people with pointed ears who are skilled in craftsmanship and animal husbandry; they are also fun-loving to the point of being mischievous) live in the forest, and the nobility of the race often have beautiful palaces built. Such is the case for the Norya family, who have long dwelt in a fine citadel built on Posel Lake.

One of my favorite things about waking around downtown Edmonton, is the beautiful buildings and interesting architecture. The Art Gallery of Alberta and the Citadel Theater have been in place around Churchill Square for years, promoting arts and culture in our City. These buildings are just as interesting inside as they are from the street view.

This image was taken from aboard the wooden MV International, a diesel-powered passenger vessel, built at Goat Haunt in 1927. It plies its trade up and down Upper Waterton Lake, with a current carrying capacity of 200.
On the right is are the Citadel Peaks East (2,133m) and on the left is a ridgeline that leads up to Mount Cleveland which is off-shot to the left. These mountains are part of the Livingston Range which sits primarily in Glacier National Park in Montana, and in the extreme south-eastern section of the Canada's province of British Columbia. The range is 58 km long and 45 km wide. Over 15 summits exceed 2,700m above sea level, with the highest, Kintla Peak, at 3,079m.
While these elevations are not particularly high for North American mountains, they are high compared to the roughly 1,200m elevation of the nearby valleys, making for particularly dramatic peaks.
The Livingston Range was initially uplifted beginning 170 million years ago when the Lewis Overthrust fault pushed an enormous slab of Pre-Cambrian rocks 4.8 km thick, 80 km wide and 260 km long over newer rocks of the Cretaceous Period.
Waterton Lake is composed of two bodies of water, connected by a shallow channel known locally as the Bosporus. The two parts are referred to as Lower Waterton Lake, and Upper Waterton Lake, the latter of which is crossed by the Canada-United States international border.
Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park was created by the US and Canada in 1932. In 1979, UNESCO established the Waterton Biosphere Reserve to protect the diverse habitats including prairie grasslands, aspen parkland, sub-alpine forests, alpine tundra and freshwater fens that surround the lake. Later, in 1995, it was inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
I was staying in West Glacier, MT., so drove to Waterton in Canada to take the boat to Goat Haunt (back in Montana) and then spent most of the day hiking north up the side of the lake back to my car at Waterton, before again crossing the international border back to West Glacier. That became impossible for a non-North American after 9/11. I'm not sure whether the situation has subsequently changed.
