L92 is fettled between duties at Chinnor

1960s postcard view of the dining room at Chin's, a Chinese-American restaurant, located at 2614 Connecticut Ave NW in Woodley Park. The eatery stayed in business until about 1990, when it was replaced by the Panda Gourmet.

D3018 was built at Derby Works in 1953 delivered to Willesden In 1971 after a spell at Cricklewood it moved to Bletchley where it was used mainly at the Wolverton Works and frequently on Royal Train Duties. In June 1974 the shunter was renumbered into the TOPS numbering system, becoming 08011. It became the oldest working diesel on British Rail and was repainted near its original green livery and named Haversham by the staff of Bletchley.

Due to the engine being vacuum braked only, Haversham was withdrawn from traffic on 16 December 1991, remaining at Aylesbury until being purchased by the Railway On 24 August 1994 the engine hauled the first public train to Wainhill Crossing.

The boys are here briefly in the Spring, though some are seen in the summer. They are tiny and mighty - those pictured are apparently well-fed. They are helpful getting rid of aphids, mosquitoes, and biting gnats that plague our mule in summer.

Had some fun last night with Jeremy and Darien Chin. This was for a project Jeremy is doing at his place.

Darien Chin

The lights were in place, set by Jeremy, I just popped a few frames of film for fun.

I thought this was perfect to post since I'm trying to keep my chin up fighting this darn cold I have. So far I haven't had a lot of improvement since starting the antibiotic. If things aren't better by Monday, back to the Doctor I go. I sure hope everyone else is well and having a great weekend!

Please view in large size - it looks different in large size. Thanks!

Black-chinned Siskin (Spinus barbatus) is only found in southern South America and the Falklands. Like European Siskin it is usually a forest bird, but seems to manage with just a few trees on the Falkland Islands where it behaves like a Linnet, feeding on weed seeds in small flocks. It is very similar and to European Siskin (Spinus spinus) and is in the same genus but it has bolder black head and throat markings, though European Siskin also has a black chin like this: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/51733177069/in/photolist The generic name Spinus was an unidentified bird mentioned by various ancient writers including Aristophanes and Dionysius. Barbatus means bearded from its black chin. I photographed this male in Port Stanley on the Falkland Islands.

A while ago I was taking a photo walk in Athens with my friend Villy when I saw this old man. I really liked his face so I thought why not, I will snap him. I got really close and I took the shot. I think I managed to get my 35mm lens something like 40cm - 50cm close to his face. Snap!
