Even though I am shown spearing some asparagus, the grilled catfish is the star of the dinner. Our second batch of catfish did quite well, but salmon works better on her outdoor gas grill. At home my oven-broiled catfish works equally well as my oven-broiled salmon.

Catfish Paradise... apparently

Alabama deep fried catfish nuggets. Catfish (or catfishes; order Siluriformes or Nematognathi) are a diverse group of ray-finned fish. Named for their prominent barbels, which resemble a cat's whiskers, catfish range in size and behavior from the three largest species, the Mekong giant catfish from Southeast Asia, the wels catfish of Eurasia and the Piraíba of South America, to detritivores (species that eat dead material on the bottom), and even to a tiny parasitic species commonly called the candiru, Vandellia cirrhosa. There are armour-plated types and there are also naked types, neither having scales. Despite their name, not all catfish have prominent barbel. Members of the Siluriformes order are defined by features of the skull and swimbladder. Catfish are of considerable commercial importance; many of the larger species are farmed or fished for food. Many of the smaller species, particularly the genus Corydoras, are important in the aquarium hobby. Many catfish are nocturnal, but others (many Auchenipteridae) are crepuscular or diurnal (most Loricariidae or Callichthyidae for example). View large for detail.

Flathead Catfish: Pylodictis olivaris

Appearance:

A flat head, tiny eyes, square-ish tail and protruding lower jaw distinguish flathead from other. They are yellow-brown, usually mottled above, with a creamy colored belly.

Habitat:

Flathead are found in the Apalachicola and Escambia rivers, where they recently arrived from Georgia and Alabama. Flatheads prefer long, slow-flowing, moderately-turbid rivers.

Behavior:

Spawning occurs in late spring. One or both parents excavate the nest that is usually made in a natural cavity or near a large submerged object. Females lay a golden-yellow mass of up to 100,000 eggs. The nest is guarded and the eggs are agitated by the male to keep them clean and aerated. They feed on other fish, especially catfish and sunfish.

Additional Information

State Record: 63.80 pounds.

Big Catch minimum: 36 inches or 25 lbs.

Fishing Tips and Facts: Their solitary lifestyle makes them more difficult to catch than other catfish. They bite best at night while in shallow water looking for food. To catch flatheads, anglers typically fish on the bottom using heavy tackle with live or freshly cut fish.

This street in downtown Columbus MS was, in the days of segregation, the economic and cultural center of the Afro American community in the town. This mural is meant to reflect that. As you recede into the background of the mural you recede backwards in time as the cars and clothing reflect an earlier time. The street is indeed named Catfish Alley. Columbus celebrates a festival every spring to honor the history and cultural significance of this site.

I was touched by my time here .

They were told to pack for 3 days then they would return , it never happened.

This city was built in 1970 for the workers of the Nuclear power plants 47,000 people and children lived here , This fairground never ever was used , Glasnost came far to late for the citizens of Pripyat who were finally evacuated 24 hour after the explosion at Reactor 4 , 1200 Buses and 6 trains were used that took 3.5 hours , all to late They were told they would return in Three days , No one ever did return !!!

In the city of Chernobyl there stands a simple memorial to the liquidators who rushed to reactor number four in the immediate aftermath of the explosion. The firefighters who initially responded to the disaster on the morning of April 26, 1986 were unaware that they were entering a radioactive environment, and rushed to the plant without donning protective suits and respirators. While they labored to extinguish the fires, their bodies absorbed lethal doses of radiation, and many of them later died of Acute Radiation Sickness. Overall, some 600,000 workers, including scientists, miners, and Soviet military conscripts, participated in the Chernobyl cleanup efforts. To this day, many of them continue to experience a variety of health problems stemming from their time spent in the zone. The plaque on the monument is inscribed “To those who saved the world.”

My self and Tim spent Four days in the Ukraine , Two days touring Chernobyl & Pripyat , i ask you to watch this Full version video of the disaster and things i never knew about the disaster in 1986 .This video was played to us as we were driven on a bone shaking Bus to the Zone and armed guard security check points. The video is amazing !!!!!

500,000 people worked and many died and still suffer "Chernobyl Syndrome " even now and will for many years to follow . We were limited with the building we could get into so next Tour we will go on a Private tour , it was one amazing experience i hope the images will do it justice ! My part in recording and discovering history when i was 21 i just watched it on TV and thought nothing of it !!!!!

Man's desire for more Power has huge consequences for our Worlds future , the remaining Nuclear reactors on the Chernobyl site stopped producing in 2000 , One was being build in 1986 next to Reactor 4 which exploded it was never completed and stands there now decaying and Two huge cooling towers are 25% complete , the French are building huge " Sarcophaguses to seal every Reactor these will last 100 years , Reactor 4 will require a new one soon as it will only last 30 , on one road in Chernobyl our Geiger counters went crazy and all of the alarms went off , .

When you leave Chernobyl you pass through Two check points that measure every part of you we all got the ALL CLEAR !!! Who knows Governments Lie its a corrupt system !!!

I was usually last on the BUS !!! :-) The walk of shame !!

On Catfish Lake we found a campsite high above the water with a fantastick view. This is the gang at sunset just before we set off for our tents.

This soapfish followed a school of ocean catfish around and snatched up small organisms which they dug up. The catfish, active diggers, did not seem to mind the soapfish. Is there some kind of symbiosis going on? Th catfish ave poor vision and could use the soapfish as a lookout?

taken at bharatpur bird sanctuary. It's a sight to see cormorants diving and coming up with their catch...some small and some huge like this catfish. There's usually a fight where others try to 'snatch the catch' and the victorious one just swallows it...
