Johnny Cash (* 26. Februar 1932 als J. R. Cash in Kingsland, Arkansas, USA; †12. September 2003 in Nashville, Tennessee, USA) war einer der einflussreichsten US-amerikanischen Country-Sänger und -Songschreiber.
Cash war für seine markante Bassbariton-Stimme und den sogenannten „Boom-Chicka-Boom“-Sound seiner Begleitband Tennessee Three sowie seine kritischen und unkonventionellen Texte bekannt. Sein musikalisches Spektrum reichte von den 1950er Jahren mit Country, Gospel, Rockabilly, Blues, Folk und Pop bis hin zum Alternative Country Anfang des 21. Jahrhunderts. Legendär sind seine Konzerte in den Gefängnissen Folsom und San Quentin Ende der 60er Jahre.
Johnny Cash, der den Beinamen „Man in Black“ trug, hat etwa 500 Songs geschrieben, mehr als 53 Millionen Tonträger verkauft und wurde mit 15 Grammy Awards ausgezeichnet.
