Vintage photograph of my maternal grandfather, Thomas Cashion. He achieved the rank of Yeoman First Class in the US Navy and served on three war patrols (9-11) aboard the USS Silversides (SS-236) in World War II.
This photo was possibly taken outside of Newbegin's Bookstore in San Francisco, California. It appears to be circa 1942 as there are copies of "Brave General," written by Herbert Sherman Gorman and "The Moon is Down, written by John Steinbeck visible in the window. Both books were published in 1942.
After their sold out, standing room only presentation, they went off to the John Wiley & Sons booth for a book signing.

Unfortunately, the lighting in the pharmacy/soda fountain was terrible. Using the flash washed out my photos. So, this is what I am left with. Vintage cash register in the pharmacy.
