Country life - The funfair

I went to a local antiques and collectables fair this morning and I discovered this beautiful antique cash drawer - which of course I filled with treasures straight away! I love it a lot :)

It's about 17 inches/42 cms wide...

when I came across this scene, I couldn't help but stop the car. There was this bright pink car and bright green container against the dark stormy sky, what a colour combination! I just love those skies, but you know that it can start to rain any moment... and guess what...

Every now and then, as a photographer, you cash in the good luck chips. After all the times you've been screwed by the railroad, the weather, or just circumstances in general, you get something you've always wanted, and all is forgiven. July 5, 2021, was such a day for me. I had an afternoon to get out west of Ronaoke, and I turned on the scanner as I started to head out to my favorite place to railfan. The scanner crackled alive with the Roanoke dispatcher talking to a westbound move out of South Yard, and my heart JUMPED. I put a little more hustle in my drive as a westbound gravel train confirmed they were departing Roanoke. The NS Whitethorne district, the former Virginian railway line into Roanoke, is used fairly exclusively for eastbound moves due to its lesser grade, so this would indeed be rare if they got a move on. As the New River dispatcher coordinated a meet with an eastbound coal drag, the ballast train got the signal out of South Yard and it was ON. It was a stunningly beautiful day as I put the drone up to capture them at this iconic spot in Kumis, with a rare shot of a westbound move. All sure was forgiven on this day, as the glory of Southwest Virginia was on full display.

This 12 metre waterfall is on Cash Burn which flows into Black Burn and ultimately into the South Tyne three miles West of Garrigill in Cumbria.

Cash Burn starts North of Cross Fell between Bullman Hills and Longman Hill. Is the most "out of the way" waterfall I have photographed.

Stumble It!

Taken on 29 May 2004. Long gone, but sentiments even more relevant today as we approach a general election. And, unfortunately, we have Ukip nowadays. Don't vote for racists.

Got this from some mug shot web site. Saw the movie Walk the Line last weekend and truly enjoyed it. Highly recommended!

Man In Black Lyrics

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,

Why you never see bright colors on my back,

And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.

Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,

Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town,

I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,

But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those who never read,

Or listened to the words that Jesus said,

About the road to happiness through love and charity,

Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,

In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,

But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,

Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,

For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,

I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,

Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,

Believen' that the Lord was on their side,

I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,

Believen' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right I know,

And things need changin' everywhere you go,

But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right,

You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day,

And tell the world that everything's OK,

But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,

'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black.

The theme for Macro Monday this week is "Intended contact".

The intention of this theme is to show 2 objects interacting with each other (actually touching !) for the purpose of performing a specific action. It must be clear that the contact is not just by coincidence but with the purpose to actually achieve something. I'm not sure if I really do that, but my effort is "Crash for cash!" Happy Macro Mondays!

In Crash for Cash scams, fraudsters deliberately crash into the vehicles of innocent motorists or submit false claims for accidents. The intention is to make as much money as possible from the exaggerated claim, with proceeds used to fund other accidents or even more serious crimes.

Crash for Cash comes in three scenarios:

1.) A Staged Accident is where fraudsters crash two of their own vehicles together, or use a sledgehammer to imitate the effects of a crash.

2.) An Induced Accident is where a fraudster will deliberately slam on the brakes of their car to ensure the car behind crashes into them.

3.) A Ghost Accident is where a fraudster will submit false claims for accidents that didn’t even happen

Money makes the world go round.
