Today was a very busy day at the office, I ended up taking a late (and short) lunch break and needed to venture out of the cubicle walls so I ended walking the canal for a while.

I passed by these flowers which were buzzing with bees; figuring I hadn't had a chance to shoot yet I pulled my camera from my bag and fired away and crossed my fingers for a good one before heading back to the office.

I really like the way the colours and light came out in this so I'm pretty happy with this very quick lunch hour photoshoot.

Hope everyone has had a good day.

Thought this an appropriate twofer for that Flyday Feeling!

Today was a scorcher in the Washington, DC, area. Even the bees were hot and looking for something cool.

I was tired of my hair so I asked Chad if he could buzz it off. He did, and said "want to buzz mine?" So I returned the favor.

The Red Arrows at Airbourne 2014

On Saturday afternoon the sun came out and with it, the bees appeared.... I don't like to get too close and they make me jump when they start to buzz, so as soon as one landed I got the camera stuck in its face as quickly as possible LOL

This was the only shot that came out clear, but I know some of my contacts have seriously amazing macro bees that are way way better than this :) :)

I did notice in this shot though, that the bee was filling one of its pollen sacks.... you can just make out the little yellow rectangle behind the flower...

Well, we're almost at the weekend again, hope your week has been going good so far :)

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments and messages on my bluebell photo :)

“Let us not go hurrying about and collecting honey, bee-like buzzing here and there for a knowledge of what is not to be arrived at, but let us open our leaves like a flower, and be passive and receptive, budding patiently."

I'm A King Bee · The Rolling Stones

Well, I'm a king bee, can buzz all night long

Well, I can buzz better, baby, when your man is gone

With Birmingham being my local airport, I never really had the chance to plane spot there in the evening (shocking, I know!); however on my way back from London Gatwick back home saw me make a stop to see the evening activity with some very interesting visitors.

For a while, chasing Ryanair's other subsidiaries colour schemes have been particularly challenging given their less ubiquitous nature, having said that they are scheduled occasionally but their appearance is never guaranteed!

This is certainly the case for Ryanair's Polish subsidiary, Buzz (formerly Ryanair Sun); the fleet largely consists of Ryanair liveried Boeing 737-800s, with even a small portion of their Boeing 737 MAX 8-200s also in the standard colours. The subsidiary dates back to 2018 with the rebranding to Buzz taking place in 2020, the name being revived following its closure in 2004 when Ryanair acquired the airline from KLM back in 2003.

Buzz currently operates from 12 bases across Eastern Europe, and it's no surprise that their Buzz-liveried Boeing 737 MAX 8-200s do make appearances in Birmingham, of which 8 carry such colours, certainly pleasing to the eye!

Almost guaranteed to appear, Ryanair (and Buzz) operates four-weekly flights between Birmingham and Kraków (FR1466/1465) on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday only; Ryanair's Irish-registered Boeing 737-800s operates the Tuesday and Wednesday flights, whilst Buzz operates the Monday and Friday flights with Boeing 737 MAX 8-200s, although it is not uncommon for a Polish-registered Boeing 737-800 to deputise on the occasional Friday.

Currently, Buzz operates 59 Boeing 737s, which includes 46 Boeing 737-800s and 13 Boeing 737 MAX 8-200s.

Romeo Zulu Delta is one of 13 Boeing 737 MAX 8-200s operated by Buzz, delivered new to the low-cost carrier on 10th November 2021 and she is powered by 2 CFM International CFM LEAP-1B27 engines.

so what have we here?

I don't know to be honest

I found it dead, on a window ledge in my house, either becuase it had naturally expired, or someone had helped it along its way . It had beautiful wings and was larger than a house fly.

I took loads of photos of it, by my front window which doubles up as my indoor studio and is the main place where the photos in my table top photography set are taken.

This is the first time that I have tried to articulate how I approach photography. Basically, in a nutshell - I see possibilities in the viewfinder. So here, the fly had beautiful wings but as I was moving my camera in and out of focus, against the subdued light of the window (the curtains were nearly closed, it was hot) - I saw an image like this in my viewfinder, and liked it, so then played around with focus.

Taking photographs against this window is amazing - many of my photographs taken this way (ie wide open lens) have a beautiful green backdrop, and some of my fly photos taken that day have an orange background - something to do with the bright sunlight.

I had three goes to get the photo I wanted, uploading to my computer each time - not sure if I could work in film as I need to see the product. The window was slightly open and the last time I uploaded the fly disappeared, taken somewhere by the wind - so I thanked it for letting me take photographs, and I hoped that in return I could show its beauty.
