I was fixing a missing button in one of my shirts while thinking about this week´s theme and it occurred to me how many opposites were in that little box of buttons. There was black and white, big and small, curved and straight, textured and smooth, transparent and opaque, elegant and simple... am I missing something else?
Thank you for all the faves and comments! I really appreciate them!
i have a weakness for mother-of-pearl and abalone shell buttons. :-)
this photo was made by reversing a 50mm meyer optic gorlitz domiplan lens to turn it into a macro lens. a very fun technique to play with.
j'ai une faiblesse pour des butons faits du coquillage. :-)
My grandmother's tin box full of old buttons was one of the great objects of delight in my childhood. And now I have my own. (When it is not being photographed it is a lot fuller than this!)

I'm kind of frustrated with this. Can't get it to match my vision for it.
Thanks to all who helped this one get to Explore Front Page. :)
This was my wedding dress that I wore on November 26, 1982, it was the same dress that my mother wore on November 9, 1941. My mother was so pleased that I chose to wear her beautiful gown that she had bought at Hudson's in downtown Detroit.
The dress was made of the most beautiful heavy satin that I ever saw. It was a faint blush pink in color with a full length train that I carried in a hoop on my wrist at the reception.
One of the things I loved most about the dress was the satin-covered buttons. I always thought that it was a fancy detail that was only typical of beautiful gowns. There were 8 of these satin loop buttons on each sleeve and 32 buttons on the back. No zipper on the dress. There were 48 buttons in all!
Love the primary colors and the layers of circles showing through as I scattered tiny buttons on a lightbox. (This is only about 2" wide shot)

I came across most of these buttons while I was trying to minimize the clutter I’ve amassed over the years. Some were mine, others belonged to my daughters. Since they all fit into a cigar box, I kept them. Since buttons are the theme of today’s Crazy Tuesday, it was a wise decision.
I found this guy in a box. Years ago my son took sewing as an easy credit. He ended up making this and a hideous pair of gym shorts.

Mes boutons plastiques motif carreau se sont laissés envahir largement par des cristaux, faux par dessus le marché.
Jehu and I are leaving for Alaska on Wednesday, and these were the last buttons I had to make before then. Hooray!
The weather has been horrible here the last few days - VERY wet! - so it's nice to have things to photograph indoors. These ceramic buttons are handmade from stoneware clay using a press mould with natural fennel and thyme. Most of the things I collect are vintage, but from time to time something modern creeps in if it appeals to me. :)
little Buttons was down in the pond runoff today ... he came with Missy and Flash ... I havn't seen his mom Jorja yet ...if you look close you can see his little antlers starting ...the photo quality is crappy as he wouldn't let me get too close .. he's kind of skittery right now ...update ... I know realize this isn't Buttons ... not sure who he is but he sure is cute!
