Day 284 of 365 Challenge - is Count Your Buttons Day is today. Aren't you excited!? The very first question you must be asking is "Why!?" Well, I don't know why. So here it is, staring you in the face. A wild and wacky day with absolutely no history to define it's purpose for being. One might suggest that the creator of this wacky day, was himself a bit wacky. How do you celebrate this day? If you have nothing better to do, you start counting your buttons. Otherwise, you may choose to move on with your life to something (anything) of greater importance. Regardless I hope you have a happy Count Your Buttons Day!!
NOTE: These are my buttons for art projects . . . I have not counted them!

My beloved Mom had two big jars filled with different sorts of buttons. She kept them just in case she might need them one day, who knows... She loved to sew.
When my kids were very young, she had them sort the buttons according to colours and shapes and tie each few together in a thread.
Mom did it to keep the kiddos occupied, bless her heart. They still remember it with so much love and affection.
My beloved Mommy passed away on December 20th 2013.
I miss her so much.

Buttons and program designed for a wedding in North Carolina.
The couple requested tattoo designs and silhouettes in their wedding colors – orange, red and hot pink.
The programs match the invitations I designed for them.
Buttons of all kinds - plain colored, patterned, polka dot, heart shaped, star shaped, flowers, and more.
This collection of buttons reminds me of my Grandmother. She would call them "her colors". She loved oranges and browns and reds. She was also an avid seamstress and passed her knowledge down to me. For this I am eternally grateful.
They also remind me of growing up in Western NY during the fall months. I've never seen more beautiful leaves.(Certainly not in Florida!)
Recycled Nutella jar, full of buttons.

Today has been a Terrific Tuesday ... why ? Well apart from being the first Tuesday in November and a day when a little old horse race called The Melbourne Cup stops a nation ... I also made some fun "easy as" fabric buttons :)
Using a simple button kit it really was as "easy as" 1, 2, 3 to make these adorable fabric covered buttons (with absolutely no sewing skills required ;)
Fabrics shown are from my Perfect Pink Collection and include : (from top)
Disco Dots - Hot Pink
Country Checks
and
Spring Blossoms
I hope you had a Terrific Tuesday too, and if you placed a bet on The Melbourne Cup, I hope you backed a winner!

Some of my collection of pearl buttons - I knew there was a good reason for keeping them!
Spring is almost here! I took a break from crafty photography, and hunkered down for the winter with various projects. It also encouraged me to sift through my craft materials.
A few years ago, I was handed a grocery bag worth of buttons (I love it when crafters think of me when they declutter). Around the same time I went to a vintage fair and bought the chipmunk and bunny cards. I liked the buttons on them, but I was mostly drawn to the cute animals. These were probably old cards that the vender repurposed to make the buttons more distinctive? If so, it worked!
The buttons are mostly Domcord, Streamline, Tiffany and Lady Fashion.
I did a lot of thinking this winter about how to use up all these up. I have lots of ideas, but it will probably take me years.
