Spent several glorious hours today photographing butterflies. They were everywhere....in the daylilies and on the thistle. There is the joy of the visual...the bright bright colors and vivid patterns, but today, there was also the joy of sound. There was the ever-present humming of bees, of course. But there was also a very slight, very quiet thud thud thud. I realized that that was the sound of a hundred butterfly wings beating beating beating. Glorious.

In the silence of colors when no one's around,

and the light slowly fading, is my favorite sound.

I light on a leaf to settle my wings,

because they are delicate, and sensitive things.

Now I wait in the darkness no matter how long,

till I feel the vibrations, of the birds morning song.

Ps. Butterflies have no ears, so they sense the vibrations

in the air, with their wings.
