Unidentified large bush at 15th street on the High Line. These little (1-2cm) paintbrush-like poofs completely cover the bush.
Update: Identified, thanks to the High Line's handy bloom lists by month. This is Baccharis halimifolia, groundsel bush, in the aster family.
This was a nice surprise. A couple years ago I pruned the Butterfly Bush in the side yard back extensively, as I read you're supposed to do. The next year, it appeared dead - no leaves, no flowers, brittle limbs, etc. I was outside picking up pine cones yesterday and saw this smaller version growing next to the old dead plant.
