The Bush House Hotel opened across the street from the Quakertown train station in 1850. The hotel grounds had land for "and for 25 cows, 100 hogs, and 50 horses". The hotel fell into decline and had been turned into long-term housing for low income residents. The building was condemned in late 2021 putting 60 residents out on the street. After a two month cleanup the condemnation order was lifted.

Mum, Dad, the kids and the grand kids were hiding in Moire Park. Slight adjustment to brightness and small crop.
As I made this shot, I wondered about the people who once lived in this old cabin in this bush and wetlands, many decades ago. The late day sunlight brings out the surface of the old structure.

This series are photographs taken while discovering this magnificent 'bush' Capital of ours and the surrounding region.
I moved here to live at the end of May 2014 and this grouping were taken in mid-January 2018 on a Sunday walk from Kambah Pool to Pine Island, along part of the Murrumbidgee Discovery Track, which itself if part of the Canberra Centenary Trail and at one point joins The Bicentennial National Trail (BNT) (where we went cycling a couple of weeks ago and the images are in the album Urambi Hills Nature Reserve).
'Distance: 8.5 km one-way. Difficulty: moderate, suitable for mountain bikes. You can walk or take your mountain bike south to Pine Island along the Murrumbidgee Discovery Track. This track passes through native forest and farmland and takes you above Red Rocks Gorge, one of the most spectacular gorges along the whole Murrumbidgee River. A lookout provides great views of the gorge. Further on, after crossing Tuggeranong Creek, the track passes an historic dry stone wall, built in the 1860s to mark the boundary between two early rural properties'. There are so many areas of natural beauty in the ACT, it's certainly worth a visit!
The reason they are linked to my pinch river profile is because they will inevitably feed into my work at some stage in some way or another, but for now can just be enjoyed as images of the area that captured my attention and inspired my creativity.
