Leaving Valkenburg I made my way to Nurburg for my visit to Nordschleife. On the way I drove through Kerpen, home of Michael Schumacher, 7 times Formula 1 World Champion.
Quite chuffed, as I made my way through the town I was soon to discover Michael's Kart & Event Center. I was just in time for it to be open, so a quick dash into a race suit & I was on his track, his karts for some great memories.

April #conservationlands15 #bucketlist: Bodie Hills, California, for Wildflowers, Wildlife and One-of-a-Kind Ghost Town!
California’s Eastern Sierra region is a dramatic transition zone between the snowcapped granite spires of the Sierra Nevada and the endless sagebrush covered uplands of the Great Basin. A visit at the right time of year will reward visitors with a diversity of wildflowers.
One great wildflower viewing area is just north of Mono Lake and east of Yosemite in the rolling Bodie Hills – hills being an understatement since they top out at over 10,000 feet! Because of their high elevation, wildflower blooms are later here than much of California – typically arriving in May-June on the lower slopes and into July on the highest peaks. Several back roads traverse the area and offer access to view the displays of phlox, penstemmon, and paintbrush to name a few of the many wildflower species. More than 100,000 acres of BLM lands cover most of the Bodie Hills and include several wilderness study areas.
This year’s bloom promises to be early and short due to the dry winter across much of California. However, even if you miss the peak bloom, there is no shortage of things to see in the area. Bodie State Park is the site of the best-preserved ghost town in California, and arguably in the U. S. Wildlife viewers can see antelope, mule deer, and if lucky, get a glimpse of a sage grouse. If you visit later, around early October, crisp clear nights will turn the scattered aspen stands to gold, giving a second opportunity to see the Bodie Hills in color.

#hexagenialimbata on Lake Almanor #flyfishing #bucketlist ☑️ #browntrout. Hex Hatch on Lake Almanor - My grandfather started coming to Lake Almanor after his return from WWII. For most summers since, my family has made the long drive north to relax at the lake. I found a passion for fishing on the lake, and in the streams that feed and drain it. Occasionally, when the water and wind were just right, we'd find a big yellow bug on the lawn, deck or trees. Curiousity led me to learn about Hexagenia Limbata -- the world's largest mayfly -- a trout's Big Mac. Each year, during the last two weeks in June, these giant bugs crawl out of the muddy lake bottom, swim up through the water column, and emerge at sunset to float like little yellow sail boats on the lake's surface. Giant trout, normally dwellers of the deeper regions of the lake, move with the bugs to gorge themselves. The fishermen follow. Unfortunatley for me, the timing of our family vacations never coincided with this ritualistic phenomenon. Fishermen fantasize; it's part of who we are. The dreaming is a big part of what we love about the sport. I've literally dreamt about this hatch on several occasions over the last 30 years. The Hex on Almanor has always been an unfulfilled line item in my bucket list -- until last night. Finding myself between jobs, and with a wonderful wife, I snuck away to chase the bugs, catch the fish, live the dream. Check. Check. And Check. How lucky am I?

Today, we’re heading over to Baldwin County, Alabama, where the BLM manages seven small beach front tracts. All of these tracts are designated critical habitat for Alabama beach mouse and contain primary dunes, the preferred habitat for this species. The tracts also provide nesting habitat for loggerhead sea turtles.
In fact, these beaches are one of the few areas in the U.S. that federally-threatened Loggerhead Sea Turtles use for nesting. Actually locating a sea turtle nesting spot - momma turtles like to hide and lay eggs at night - and watching eggs hatch are rare events. Volunteers regularly patrol the beaches and watch for signs of turtle nesting.
BLM Southeastern States employees and volunteers also maintain some of the areas and trails around the beach tracts. As a joint project, employees and volunteers defined the existing pedestrian pathway through the dunes with a unobtrusive fence. The marked path is intended to guide visitors to the beach and away from the unique habitat for wildlife.
Thanks to the volunteers whose work is critical to the conservation and recreation activities along the BLM-managed shoreline.

I could have just done my photography bucket-list, that would also have been fun.
So after much discussing of bucket lists. I wrote one today. Very cool to realise how many amazingly neat stuff I have already done, and how much more I want to do.

BLM Winter Bucket List #12: Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area, Oregon, for Its Roosevelt Elk
The Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area is the year-round residence for a herd of about 100 Roosevelt Elk. A mild winter climate and abundant food allow Oregon’s largest land mammals to remain at the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area all year.
Roosevelt Elk are Oregon’s largest land mammals, weighing up to 1,100 pounds and standing as tall as five feet at the shoulder. Antlers of the Roosevelt Elk can reach spreads of nearly three feet.

One off the bucket list!
Discovered in 1967, I became hooked in 1972 when I first saw one. I knew that one day I would have one. So as a retirement gift to myself... I took the plunge and designed this monster. Thanks to Jason Scott Jewelers for making it exactly as I've imagined it for 40 years.

Stelvio Pass is on many a person's list of 'must do' drives and made more famous from Top Gear's segment a few years back. My trip was a little unfortunate as the clouds, fog, rain and snow reduced visibility to a few metres.
Nonetheless the scale and sheer magnitude of where this road ascends to is amazing. Many stop at the top and come back, but I continued on and found tarmac nirvana through the amazing Alps and down into the top of Italy.
A 'must do again' route for sure.

My bucket list.......
There are so many things on my bucket list that I want to do. Traveling, seeing sights, learning new things, making a difference, etc, etc.
The biggest thing on my bucket list though.....get married.
I want to be a part of something amazing. I want to develop a connection with someone more than just "hi, how was your week? Do anything fun? That's nice, Bye".
Right now though, this one particular item keeps eluding me. Its the one thing I can't do on my own. I can't make someone love me, I can't make someone want to be with me.
So for now, it's on my bucket list. I'm hoping someday I can cross it off.

Lecco was home base during my trip to the Monza Formula 1 Grand Prix. About 30 minutes away from the track it was not too far, but gave you a feeling of being on holiday.
A lovely town with the lake and mountains as a backdrop, wonderful town square & great food.

So heart-warming to see the boys really get involved with what nature has to offer. Here Miles is checking some bird calls.
Our trip to the Olympic National Park took in two different areas: the north-eastern side where we hiked Hurricane Ridge, and then the wetter temperate Quinault Rainforest.
We used Port Angeles as our base, and whilst this town is hardly glamorous, it proved to be a well-placed location, especially for the area around Hurricane Ridge. It also surprised us with the number of restaurants, some of which were highly review and rated. Sabai Thai really delivered a great evenings meal.
The Olympic Lodge was clean, spacious and with another good swimming pool, something we really needed after hiking in what for us was extreme heat.
