Het enorme Kasteel van Chambord is een schitterend bouwwerk en voor ons weer een puntje om van de bucketlist af te strepen. Het 16e-eeuwse jachtkasteel, het grootste en meest statige kasteel van de Loirestreek, telt 440 kamers en 365 torens. Om het domein van 5500 hectare groot staat een 32 kilometer lange muur.

The enormous Castle of Chambord is a wonderful building and another item to cross off our bucket list. The 16th-century castle, the largest and most stately castle in the Loire region, has 440 rooms and 365 towers. There is a 32 kilometer long wall surrounding the 5,500 hectare domain.

This was a highlight of my trip home. It was on my bucketlist while there and we got so lucky !
One was in the window on the east side of the old farmhouse, we hadn't seen them yet and as we neared the house we heard a clatter. When we looked we could see one owl through the east window sitting in the west window (those shots did not turn out) .... so the course of action was to disturb them no further and rather than walk around the house and likely have them fly off, we went back to the road and walked up the road a ways. Thankfully I had my 500mm Sigma. These are the shots on a high sun, very hot afternoon on the prairie in Alberta.
I could have stayed there all day watching them.
I'm not sure there's any more awe-inspiring, humbling place on earth to be than in the middle of the austere beauty that is the Patriarch Grove. Tom Lowe has famously photographed (and timelapsed) this particular tree, which is no surprise given its gnarled, reaching beauty, but the entire place is full of these twisted, noble trees. The drive along White Mountain Road to reach this grove--though a bit rough in places--has to be the single most impressive drive I've ever taken, with views across the Owens Valley where you can see across the Sierra Crest for well over a hundred miles north, south and west.

Eleven years ago today I completed a lifetime dream of owning a book from the seventeen hundreds. I have always been fascinated by history, and more so the idea and thought of people who lived their day to day lives just like we do- so many, many years ago.
When I look at this book I wonder at all the people who have handled or read this book in the last 225 years- who they were, what inspired them, what they were passionate about… I think that is really what drives my Lifetime Dreams these days –connections and experiences.

Hij stond al een tijd op mijn bucketlist, dus moest het er nu maar eens van komen: de 's avonds buiten kantooruren onwezelijke sfeer bij het eindpunt aan de Zuidas van lijn 25. Een zee van licht in totaal verlaten kantoorgebouwen- geen mens op straat en een lege dubbellange tram die naadloos in het SF-achtige decor past...

A sea of light in deserted buildings, not a living soul in sight - a totally empty double set CAF Urbos fits seamless in a SF- like decor...
I have taken a bit a break from Flickr for the past two months but I am back.
CN Tower Edge Walk. 356 meters up (1168 ft), got to walk the 150 meters around the edge of the observation tower with frequent stops and drills for thrills. The ledge is only 3.5 ft which adds to the lovely fright. I have to say this one was the most exhilarating / scary things I've done in a while and loved every second of it. Gives you perspective.
This limestone relief found in the Royal Tomb at Amarna depicts Akhenaten, Nefertiti, and two of their daughters making an offering to the sun-disk Aten. Akhenaten and Nefertiti carry flowers to be laid on the table beneath the "life-giving" rays of the Aten.

This is just a small portion of one of the most mind boggling views in the world that I've ever seen. The Grand Canyon is about 277 miles long, up to 6000 feet (1800 meters) deep, and up to 18 miles (29 km wide. About 2 Billion years of erosion by a river are exposed before your eyes in beautiful strata in every direction you look. It is an enigma for a photographer because it is so beautiful that you want to capture something to convey to others what you're seeing, but the immensity means that no matter what photos you capture, you look at them and feel that you have missed the magnitude. As we walked along the rim, we heard languages from all over the world as visitors come from everywhere to see this work of natural art. If you don't have this one on your bucket list, I'd recommend adding it as I've never seen any type of photos including panoramas or even videos that convey the feelings you have when you stand there.

an older image from our 2011 spur of the moment hike to Havasupai. This is on my "to repeat" list.
I have some sort of bucketlist with locations on it I would like to visit soon. This former administration office of this wellknown machinery manufacturer has been on that list for several years. And now finally I got to pay it a visit.
This is one of the most beautiful staircases I have ever seen. When you look up from the ground floor, it has this Escher style to it. It was love at first sight!
Unfortunately the rest of the building is severely damaged by vandals. It has been empty for a long time already and you can tell.
When we stepped out, the police were waiting for us. ID's were checked, bags were checked and luckily we could leave with a smile.

Carn Galver Mine. The name Carn Galver means rockpile at the lookout place. There is a small pumping and a whim engine house on the St Just - St Ives coastal road (B3306). The mine was worked until 1878. It was restored twenty ago by the National Trust. This mine was never really productive and suffered from drainage problems.
Carn Galver Mine appears to have operated 1851–59, and 1871–77, 1882, becoming in 1907 Bosigran Consols
Gurnard's Head copper mine was operating in the 1830's using a 20 inch wide water wheel. Porthmeor Valley - contains many mining remains, including water wheel pits and circular ore washing sites Carn Galver - near the hamlet of Rosemergy, was part of Morvah and Zennor United. It was a very wet mine, and the pump drew water from 780 feet down, with a second engine used to raise and crush the ore. It stopped working in 1878
1871 it employed seventy miners, with an adit 70 fathoms below the surface and a shaft sunk to 130 fathoms. The ore was crushed by a compound steam engine, fitted with two pneumatic stamps. The mine was pumped out by steam power.
Years ago, when I listed out the lifetime dreams I wanted to chase, completing my journal was one of those dreams. I have since completed it, started another which will itself be finished in the next few weeks. But I thought about collecting a representation of all the writing that I do- besides just the pages of my journal.
I told myself it would be neat to collect all the pens that I go through as I write. I thought if I could collect say 500 pens, surely that would take a lifetime to complete. To be exact it took twelve years. Yesterday I used my 500th pen to complete the collection, and sitting back looking at them all I am a bit astonished at what 500 pens looks like when you put them all together. That’s a lot of writing…
Those who know me know that I will only write with a Pilot G-2 pen because of their quality and consistency- it plays into my OCD. Those who know me, also know I’ll also build some sort of a display case to showcase all of these which is coming after a few other projects get completed.

In the top #3 of the Rome-bucketlist is the ancient city. That includes Palatine Hill, Roman Forum and the Colosseum. I am particularly intrigued by the extremely rich and often bloody history and will try to share some of it. But these are all classic tourist attractions.
