I used this white 5 gallon bucket to lower this 3 week old peregrine falcon eyas to the ground so it could be banded. I didn't notice that I would be giving a shout out to the Cape May County Herald at the same time... oh well! This was the last young of the year to be banded as part of a management project where young are banded with federal and state leg bands for future tracking.

On Saturday, March 13th the Bucket Brigade will be attending Startup Accelerator. So we need signage! Now, we've got some.

This is the bucket from the Big Muskie; the largest walking dragline ever built. It was used to remove hundreds of feet of soil above the coal that was mined and had a great deep reach to dig up the really thick low vein of coal. The #9 vein of coal in this area was 180 feet deep.

The bucket could move 325 tons of dirt in a single pass. You could easily park 2 school busses inside the bucket. It was used from 1969 - 1991 in Southeastern Ohio. During this period it moved twice as much material as was moved to build the Panama Canal.

Just to give an idea of the size of this bucket I stand inside and am nearly 6’ tall. One tooth on the bucket weighs about 1,000 pounds. On both sides of the bucket you can see how large each link of chain is that was used to drag the bucket.

The bucket is all that remains of The Big Muskie and it is prominently displayed on highway 78 a few miles west of Reinersville Ohio.

A young girl eats a jelly sandwich inside a bucket as she waits for her mother to finish washing clothes in an alleyway of Barangay Pasil, Cebu City, Philippines.

Someone, who shall remain nameless, left a bucket of water outside in the cold, then dumped the half frozen results in the middle of the driveway. First thought, get this thing out of the way before I accidentally destroy my snowblower. Second thought, drop whatever plans you have and take some photos, first with a red flashlight inside and then with a kerosene flame....included this shot next to a concrete block so you could get an idea of scale.
