I caught this train going through Brampton, ON, Canada on Sunday.. This is a CN line but this wasn't a CN train.. I couldn't get the name off of the engine.. if you know feel free to comment..

Watching playful lion cubs carrying on as cats generally do, it is sometimes difficult remembering that these are wild animals. For most of us their "cuteness" factor is off the charts, and when encountered on safari the nearly silent Serengeti breeze is punctuated by the oohs and aahs of mesmerized observers. I don't know anyone who wouldn't want to take one home, but as we all know, little kittens eventually become big cats. That can certainly present a problem. These two fuzzy felines give new meaning to the adage, "I've got your back." Their playful behavior went on for a good 30 minutes, until mom made her debut. She had left them hidden in the kopje while she went off to hunt. Soon she will take them to join with the pride. At that time other lions will join in and help with their collective care. #iLoveCats #iLoveLions #iLoveNature #iLoveWildlife #Wildlifephotography in #Tanzania #Nature in #Africa #Serengeti #Lions #Cats #Canon #Bringit #DrDADBooks #Photography #Picoftheday #Photooftheday

Here is a shot of the new North facing entrance into the Brampton City Hall.... looks very cool at night..

here are a couple shots of this building under construction late one evening.. the rain had just stopped giving everything a nice shine in the light...

I didn't get my train coming out of the fog this day but this whole scene just looked cool and I had to capture it... :)

- this little foot bridge is crossing over the Canadian Pacific line.. This location is just outside of Campbellville, Ontario, Canada.

A tundra swan prefers the chilly waters of Yellowstone National Park's Hayden Valley. I'm posting this image as part of the "Black and White Challenge" and thank Don Hendersonο»Ώ for nominating me. I started my excursion into photography back in the days of black and white film photography. I had a small darkroom in my parent's basement in junior high school, one that ultimately burned up in a fire. Years later, just before digital photography became common, I created a black and white dark room in my attic. By the next year digital photography was all the rave, and I never looked back.

I'd like to nominate Keith Ladzinskiο»Ώ for the black and white challenge, although I know he has a very busy schedule.

I'm going to try and work these posts into my normal routine.

Here I am under the Gardener Expressway here in Toronto.. go exploring :)

"In Seventeen and eighty two

Above this Nation's skies so blue

An Eagle took a maiden flight

For liberty and human right.

Immortalized upon the seal

Native arrows it does wield

Symbolizing might and strength

An olive branch for peace at length."

From "One Nation"

For a better understanding of these verses, take a dollar bill out of your pocket and look at the eagle on the great seal on the back of the bill. Notice also that the eagle's head is turned toward the side of the olive branch, favoring peace. The great seal was thoughtfully planned, and included Native American symbolism at a time when Native Americans and colonists were at violent odds. Intriguing!

Walk off the Earth was the Headliner at this year's Canada Day Celebration here in Brampton..

A bald eagle pirouettes on the surface of the Susquehanna River. Well, not really. The camera may not be able to capture the range of luminosity that the human eye is capable of, but it can capture minute fragments of time too brief to be seen alone. This photo, second in a series, begins with the talon wielding eagle photo I posted yesterday. The eagle now appears to be standing on the water's surface, but it is actually still in flight, swooping in to grasp a fish just below the surface. Keen aerial acrobatics are required to do this with accuracy. A miscalculation could land the eagle in the river. That could be life threatening. Frozen in time, it all appears so serene and delicate, nothing like the hit, splash, and run that one observes with the naked eye. #ILoveWildlife #ILoveNature #WildlifePhotography in #Maryland #Nature in America #ConowingoDam #Wildlife in #America #DrDADBooks #Photography #Canon #Bringit #Picoftheday #Photooftheday

I struggled over whether to put this photo up or not. I realize that it will give some people distress, but the stark reality is that this is nature. For every beautiful animal that survives hundreds, at least, do not. It is the circle of life. A mother cheetah captures and brings back and releases a live Thomson's Gazelle so that her young will learn to hunt. When a life is taken nothing is wasted and many animals survive as a result. Though this would never make it into one of my books the unbelievable grace of these creatures make a gander at the photo worthwhile.

this very cool looking cloud front moving in this day..

Brown pelicans usually fly, like this, in a line or single file. At times they may also take a "v" formation. They are gregarious birds that generally live in flocks. They hunt by diving, sometimes great distances, into the sea to capture their prey, unlike the white pelican that fish collectively on the surface. I enjoy seeing them when I visit Florida coastal waters. Although we see them in New Jersey too, rarely do we see more than a few together. They are generally clumsy on land, but are extremely graceful birds in the air. They frequently fly in groups, just inches above the water. #ILoveNature #ILoveWildlife #WildlifePhotography in #Florida #Nature in #America #USA #Pelicans #BrownPelicans #Canon #DrDADBooks #Bringit #Photography #Picoftheday #Photooftheday

A pride of lions at the base of Ngorongoro crater have made taking down cape buffalo their specialty. This is no easy task, and there is always significant danger of being injured. An injured cape buffalo and several comrades give chase to a female lion. She retreats quickly. The walls of the volcanic crater loom in the distance, almost 2000 feet high. Ngorongoro is a microcosm of African wildlife. Most of the lions within the crater have been inbred. Only rarely does a lion enter the crater to become part of a pride. Most of the time they are chased off or killed. The crater has become a natural boundary. #BigCats #Bringit #Canon

A lion cub gazes at its mother while she yawns. Moments later they "head-butt". Head-butting or bunting as it is apparently also called, is a sign of affection. Yawning, on the other hand, is an action shared by many species. Though there has been extensive theory as to why animals "yawn", thus far there has been no proof that any theory stands true.

The gray catbird (Dumetella carolinensis), also spelled grey catbird, is a medium-sized northern American perching bird of the mimid family. It is the only member of the "catbird" genus Dumetella. Like the black catbird (Melanoptila glabrirostris), it is among the basal lineages of the Mimidae, probably a closer relative of the Caribbean thrasher and trembler assemblage than of the mockingbirds and Toxostoma thrashers. In some areas it is known as the slate-colored mockingbird.
