The last K Mart in the Chicagoland area will be closing sometime in December 2019. The store is virtually empty right now. All the good stuff is gone.

This has been abandoned for around 10 years and is slowly crumbling. It's a huge parcel of land begging for redevelopment! A Blight on the area, many nearby businesses are suffering, several have closed.
Bobo just arrived for a 10-day boarding session. She's a very happy, energetic keeshond. I think we're going to have a blast with her at my home. Beenie and Dexter love her!
(View of the Patullo Bridge and New Westminster Rail Bridge from Brownsville Bar Park in Surrey)
The PATTULLO BRIDGE is a through arch bridge that crosses the Fraser River and links the city of New Westminster, to the city of Surrey in British Columbia. The bridge was named in honour of Thomas Dufferin Pattullo, the 22nd Premier of British Columbia.
A key link between Surrey and the rest of Greater Vancouver, the Pattullo bridge handles an average of 75,700 cars and 3840 trucks daily, or roughly 20 percent of vehicle traffic across the Fraser River as of 2013
The NEW WESTMINSTER BRIDGE (also known as the New Westminster Rail Bridge (NSRW or the Fraser River Swing Bridge) crosses the Fraser River and connects New Westminster with Surrey, British Columbia, in Canada.
The New Westminster Bridge was constructed in 1904 and was originally built with two decks.
The lower deck was used for rail traffic, and the upper deck was used for automobile traffic. With the opening of the Pattullo Bridge in 1937, the upper deck was removed and the bridge was converted exclusively for rail use.
The toll for the upper bridge was 25 cents and created quite an uproar for farmers who found out quickly that by taking their livestock across on foot would cost them a quarter a head but if they put them in a truck it cost a quarter for the whole load.
The bridge was the preferred method of transport across the Fraser until the Pattullo Bridge opened in 1937. Prior to that to cross that part of the river meant using the K De K ferry which would dock at the present day Brownsville location which is part of the Bridgeview neighbourhood of Surrey.
The bridge is owned by the Government of Canada, operated and maintained by the Canadian National Railway, with the Southern Railway of British Columbia (SRYBC), Canadian Pacific Railway, and BNSF Railway having track usage rights.

9906 and friends wait for a green in the driving snow. I was hoping the unknown train on the left would be heading my way, but that was as close as it got. Anyone know what industry it could be switching down there or why it would be backing away from me?

El Mar Bowl closed in December 2020 and has been sold to a developer. Around April 19, 2021 the property was surrounded by the teardown fence and demolition will begin when the permits are in order.
The south west corner of the building was occupied by PJ’s Drive In.
Update August 15, 2021 - Demolition is underway, but last week several men were sitting outside the fence picketing and had “On Strike” signs in hand. It appears demo might have stopped for the time being..
Very close to the performance art was the bank's old switchboard. I think someone said it was used into the 1970s. Taken during Open House Chicago 2013.

To the west of the Tay Bridge on Riverside Drive Dundee is this new railway oriented restaurant which opened in early July 2010. It roughly follows the original design which the Dundee & Perth Railway used for the nearby station of Magdalen Green which was open between 1849 and 1965.
John Guidish was an intrepid businessman in the southern Chicago suburbs. His favorite business - this gas station, purchased in 1937. It's been sold several times since the late 1990's, never as a service station. The various businesses included an ice cream parlor.
These style service stations were found all over the country, where the owner or manager lived upstairs. This one is on Harlem Avenue at 75th street in Bridgeview, IL.
