Sometimes seeing things differently helps us SEE things differently.

Story behind this shoot:
I did the colour versions of this shoot a few years ago. They went viral and were widely acclaimed as impactful and thought provoking after being picked up by a famous Black American influencer on Instagram. The series of 6 of these shots had before this been accepted for a UK Nationwide touring exhibition - to be pulled at the last minute by those in charge as it was considered it may be too "distressing for school children" to see these (even though it was a normal exhibition for all the public who would mainly be adults anyway).
Seeing the usual images of black people suffering in chains in the schoolbooks is apparently okay, but it is not good for kids to see things differently, or to perish the thought to make the next generation actually have to THINK and be impacted ... and if they are distressed for a little while by the reality then so be it, as that's how change happens by hearts and minds being impacted as slavery and racism and inequality based on race is distressing. Whatever the race of the perpetrator and victim.
I - and my two awesome models here PJ Walker and Horace Silver - am proud that these images are considered powerful enough to impact young minds. And maybe a few old ones.
1453, after the Siege of Costantinople, by the Ottoman Turks under Sultan Mehmed II (also called Humkar - "bloodthirsty"), immediately ordered that christian church Hagia Sophia be turned into the "Aya Sofya Mosque". Crosses, bells, altar, iconostasis, sacrificial vessels, icons were removed and byzantine mosaics plastered over.
But as the apse did not face to Mecca, islamics added a mihrab located in the apse where the altar used to stand, pointing towards Mecca, also applied all around eight wooden medallions with quran inscriptions, placed in the four corners beneath the dome with names of prophets sultans caliphs; quranic inscriptions also on the frieze of blue tiles, a sultan lodge, a muezzin lodge, four minarets were erected at the corners of the exterior perimeter; a gilded bronze crescent replaced the cross crowning the basilica... such changes offended Christians

Branding the Brazos is an outdoor, life-sized bronze sculpture installation located in Indian Spring Park at the foot of the historic Waco Suspension Bridge, created by artist Robert Summers. The display features three cowboys (representing white, Hispanic, and Black drovers) and 25 longhorn cattle, commemorating the Chisholm Trail crossing. The sculptures pay homage to Waco's role in the 19th-century cattle drives.

Mrs. Ford's love of gardening and horticulture was said to be second only to her devotion to her husband and family. Her tastes in gardening were simple, at least as far as design and color were concerned. She preferred old-fashioned plant varieties such as Bachelor Buttons, Petunias, Irises, Peonies, Tulips, Lillies, Heliotropes, Delphiniums, Forget-Me-Nots, English Primrose, Scilla and, of course, Roses planted in relatively informal patterns. Indoors, her fondness for gardening was expressed by a variety of small cut flowers in small glass vases that were displayed in each room. In addition, there were assortments of foliage plants, especially located in the Swimming Pool area.
Clara Ford spent many hours planning, touring, and pampering her treasured Blue, English, and Rose Gardens, always on the lookout for imperfections such as a misplaced marigold among a sea of aqua and sky-blue blossoms. Her efforts were recognized publicly when she served as a president of the Women's National Farm and Garden Association from 1927-34.
It has been a number of years since the majority of Fair Lane's elaborate gardens have been planted and pampered the way they must have been when Mrs. and Mr. Ford were in residence. Consider, if you will, that Mrs. Ford routinely employed 25 fulltime gardeners in 1926. However, while these gardeners helped to cultivate estate grounds, there were only five servants that maintained the entire residence.
It would be almost impossible for the Henry Ford Estate-Fair Lane, as a non-profit organization, to restore each garden area fully. However, restoration of certain areas to their early 1920's state is now proceeding. The garden scheme being implemented reflects the original plan of Jens Jensen.

a local workshop, been fascinated by these colours since i was a kid, the owner was my late father's friend. this workshop is a trusted family workshop (Kah Huat)
Anyone that has known me long enough, knows that I'm an absolute perfectionist and change agent. I've struggled with an identity for SAYO for a very long time, mostly due to my creativity being absorbed by other endeavors outside of SL. I'm happy to say I finally took the time to really rediscover my brand, as it now feels more like a reflection of who I am as a person, and an effort to be true to my authentic self.
As a professional designer, I'm excited to finally have something that feels more closely related to my work in practice, and put in the dedication and love that I do in all aspects of my design ethos to apply it to something I built. This year marks 9 years of SAYO being born in Secondlife, and while I've worked a lot longer on this platform, I finally feel this is the true identity that I've always envisioned.
Over the past year, many may have noticed I have not created anything new - due to RL circumstances and a struggle to manage my depression and creative overload. I hope that this year will bring new life into the work I desire to create and I hope you'll join me, there's so much more to come.

If anyone is handing out awards for the friendliest and most accommodating staff in 2016 my vote would go to the security guards and gate staff at Brands Hatch. What a great bunch of people! The world needs more people like that (and fewer people like the entire management team of Southern Rail) . . .
