At last a period of cold, well actually freezing, and dry weather so an opportunity for a local walk to check on the wildlife.
In the early-mid 70's Eastern National didn't run any buses on Boxing Day. Southend Transport stepped in and ran to Romford via Basildon and to Colchester via Chelmsford and Maldon. Which explains how I was able to travel from Eltham, London SE9, to Colchester by bus on that day!
This is Maldon.

Some people celebrate Boxing Day by going out to all the Boxing Day Sales and spending money. I celebrate it by having a drink and wearing a box on my head. (Admittedly, that's not a traditional celebration.)
Boxing Day is for many a holiday that occurs the day after Christmas and is celebrated in the UK and many other Commonwealth countries. In Canada, Boxing Day is a federal statutory holiday. Stores and shopping malls are open and people go wild picking up bargains. Sales were originally just the one day, but now are often a full week in length or they may even be started before Christmas!
Originally, Boxing Day was a day to give a Christmas Box (usually a present of clothing, food and drink) to the poor or less fortunate. It is mentioned as far back as 1663 in a diary entry from famed English diarist Samuel Pepys.
