Montecristo is the best known and probably most appreciated brand of Habanos throughout the world. It forms the benchmark for many Habanos smokers against which other brands are judged. Named after Edmundo Dantes, hero of Alexandro Dumas' famous novel "The Count of Montecristo", the Edmundo is the first size to be added to Montecristo's standard range since 1971. It is the second new 52 ring gauge, parejo size to be introduced by Habanos, SA within a year.
This fat and sassy cigar was introduced in the spring of 2004. The cigar measures 5 3/8 inches long by 52 ring gauge and is produced primarily in the H. Upmann factory, which is in the neighborhood of Nuevo Vedado in Havana. Originally, the cigar was rather mild, with a subtle cedary, tobacco character. Some even called it bland. But recent-production Edmundos have shown much more spice and coffee character. It’s as if the Cubans increased the strong tobacco (ligero) in the blend. Whatever the reason, the cigar is now one of the most exciting coming out of Cuba.

The Chichester Signal Box has had an external refurbishment by Network Rail over the past few months and now with the scaffolding removed it looks splendid. The colour scheme is very much the pre-nationalisation Southern Railway. This is an LBSCR box (then Chichester West) that controlled the goods yard in Chichester. It now has a panel and controls the line from Woodhorn, 4 miles east of Chichester to Emsworth. The BR plate survives still with its Network South East flash. The original LBSCR plate for Chichester West also survives in very careful private ownership!

Found this past week at an antique store along Clark Street in Chicago's Andersonville, filled with old glass bottles and a rusty bayonet from a rifle.
Interior measures 17W x 11D x 10H.
Stamped Manufactured by D.M. Goodwillie, Chicago. Douglas M. Goodwillie began building wooden boxes in Chicago in 1879, and passed the business down to his sons. From The Book of Chicagoans: A Biographical Dictionary of Leading Living Men of the City of Chicago. 1911.
This sturdy box is very well built. Right away one notices the rounded handles with eased edges so your hands don't get cut up, a spring-loaded catch on the lid that keeps it secured, and double-jointed hinges along the back of the lid so it can hang flush against the back when open. Some of the steel reinforcement strips have seen better days, but this thing may very well be 130 years old.
I plan on giving the box a gentle cleaning, a light wax, and then leaving it alone.
For the unlimited class, I stuff the car kit box with jatoba and lead getting the car to 24.2 ounces. It finished first in the unlimited class races
