Box Valley 02/01/21, lovely day for a walk

Photo of Dereham Central signalbox taken on the last day of passenger operation.

Dereham Central had a 50 lever McKenzie and Holland frame and was a GE Type 2 box. The styling was quite unusual for this type of box and incorporated many departures from that generic arrangement, with central cabin door, split locking room windows, an enormous window balcony and stubby eaves. The staircase is a later 1950s modification, built of of standard L sections, rail and concrete stair treads.

I've always loved and looked out for this signal box whenever I come to Brum. It's a work of art to my eyes.

This 1 year old was so cute today :) He liked my box...must have tasted good!

Paper: 7.5 cm for the box, 7 cm for the wedges

Modules: 6

Model: Tomoko Fuse

Book: Toy box of wisdom p. 57-58 (box), p.66-67 (wedges)

Fits snuggly into the box. Used a bit of glue for the base of box, not necessary if the paper is thicker (it is standard kami).

It took a while but it is finally finished with all my tools inside.

General freight box car built in 2008. It was rebuilt in 7-studs-wide convention and exists together with brown and sand-green variations of this one :)

These letter boxes were a feature of hotels in the past. On each floor there was a slot to place outgoing mail that was collected in this box. Until we came to the Hawthorne Hotel, I hadn't seen one in many years.

Hohner's Tango harps came in vividly decorated boxes usually showing a couple dancing. Sometimes you can date the harmonica by the dress of the dancers. 1920's ???

We found this house built out of an old railroad box car. It has been added on to so as to make a "double wide." As far as I could tell, this house was built this way because of poverty, not as a gimmick for tourists.

As I was going through my photos I noticed the home owner is standing in the doorway watching me.

Vintage jewelry box from the 1960's with vintage brooches - most from 1950's and later. My collection. Mar. 2017.

The jewelry box includes a three sided insert. One side is smooth for displaying a pendant, another side has a pocket for elegantly presenting a ring, and the last side has two little eyelets to showcase a gorgeous pair of earrings. There is a little envelope to neatly secure the pendant chain, which fits perfectly into the pocket. The liner box has an inner chipboard structure for durability and strength

Inarizushi and edamame fills the bottom tier. It should last us through 9 innings.

Caverswall Signal Box on the Stoke On Trent to Derby line. The box dates from 1942 and was constructed to control up and down loops built as part of wartime measures.

The plans call for a ladder frame strongback built out of typical framing lumber. I built this first and then decided that mine really needed to be mobile to give good access to all sides. I built two 8'x1'x2' box beams, replaced the ladder frame's legs with casters, and screwed them together.

Enlouqueci e como se não tivesse mais nada para fazer resolvi fazer 6 caixas bandeja todas em 4 tecidos diferentes. Ainda falta forrar com o tecido dentro das caixas.

Vitriol Works signal box located on the up side of the line at Chadderton. Thursday 18th February 1988

Vitriol Works signal box is a British Railway London Midland Region Type 14 design fitted with a 65 lever London Midland Region Standard frame which opened in 1953 in connection with the new Chadderton B electricity generating station, replacing a 1903-built 46 lever Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Standard design signal box located a few yards to the north. All of the glazing at the Manchester end of the signal box, with the exception of one pane by the front corner was bricked up in spring 1988 (the scaffolding can be seen in place). More problems with the windows meant the sliding sashes were replaced by 1997. The signal box was rewindowed and a new set of metal steps were provided in the mid-2000s

The signal box is fitted with a pair of British Railways London Midland Region maroon nameplates

Behind the signal box's location when the railway opened was Messrs Hannibal Becker and Company's works. It is shown on the 1848 Ordnance Survey map as Slacks Valley chemical works, and although the works does not appear to have been rail connected the name is thought to originate from the works

Thanks to Ingy the Wingy for the above info and for supplying the exterior illumination of the signal box by using his car headlights.

This old postbox used to stand on a plinth outside the small village post office and store in Haytor Vale, Devon. The lady that ran the post office became too frail to continue so the post office closed and it was converted back into the house it once was. This box moved up the road to stand outside the Rock Inn but it was never allowed to be used again and sealed up, the Post office preferred to install a new updated model further away in a less convenient location.

This art box is about 8.5" tall. It's an old wooden pencil box which I filled with school related stuff.

Radical slogans like "Equal Protection" and "Due Process" are festooned on the outside of the boxes.
