The blythe boxes are so pretty it's really a shame they get put aside or thrown out, so I thought I'd give them a chance to shine.

The shipping geniuses at Beckman Coulter sent this box. Note the "prevent back injury" and "bend knees to lift" markings. The box seemed much too light to cause back injury. Indeed, inside was only the sheet of paper with directions for the product shipped previously in a bigger, heavier box. Plus crumpled packing paper, to protect the printed paper from, um, shock and impact. Not only could they have e-mailed the instructions, they've sent zillions of copies over the years, and I hardly need another copy. This is the same company that has a history of not padding the shipments of glass bottles of toxic, flammable, expensive solvents adequately, resulting in breakage. But the sheet of paper is well packed.

This was the first Box Turtle I encountered on this late April Visit to Broughtons Wildlife Area . I was happy to see that he did not retreat into his shell after seeing me. I took a few photos and thanked him for posing.
We have had enough of boxes.... First of all this massive truck load of boxes ends up in our driveway. We unboxed them all and reboxed them into smaller, postman friendly boxes which then got transferred to our post office over the course of 4 days. They ran out of room very quickly so the postie van was called numerous times throughout the day to collect them. Just when we thought all box related episodes were finished, we now have to pack up our own things as we move to Sydney. We are over boxes...

This shot turned out to be more trouble than I thought it was going to be. I went through 5 or 6 takes of trying to squeeze into the box within the 20 seconds (timer). But I could not get my head low enough in the box in each take. I almost gave up, but at that point I was too vested in this shot to quit, so I removed the tape from the bottom of the box and opened it up. So the bottom of the box is basically about 6 inches off the ground my legs are hidden by the strategically placed boxes. Went through 3-4 more takes because the damn flaps kept falling over. So I finally taped the flaps together with clear tape. Never doing that again!
It is fortunate that photographers sometimes kept exposed and developed color photographs in the original box. We find the boxes to hold very interesting information from the "use by" date, December 1913, for this box of plates to the handwritten notes on exposure and development.
The store at Westgate Mall offers blind boxes, soft toys, block toys, die-cast cars, and trading card games.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I wanted my third Starr doll for her outfit--my first two gals had been separated from their factory ensembles by the time I rescued them years before. I thought that this triplet Starr was worth at least $5 because her outfit was intact, but I did not know I got some of her accessories. I think of all the Starr stuff we found in a beat up white case in the summer of 2019, that Shaun made out the best. Ironically, Shaun was not in the bin. But I'd say he got the majority of his accessories. Starr did however get her little math book, which really opens to reveal blank pages. She also has her musical instruments and both pairs of shoes. I never realized that these Starr dolls came with so many goodies, because all the pictures I saw of them were grainy or the dolls were vastly incomplete. They remind me even more of the Generation Girls of the 90s because of all the extra fixings. Some of these accessories are made with a cheaper plastic though, so one might mistake them for being clone. However I had a feeling these goodies were special the moment I laid eyes on them when they were sprawled out on the living room floor! I'd love to find more Starr clothes for my first two dolls, but I'm grateful to have such a shining example of her original outfit nonetheless!
Yay! my first gift box with a bow, I still want my edges to be sharp, not rounded, will try new techniques to see if it works! If you have tips... more than welcome!!

Each year, Gallery Route One in Point Reyes invites over a hundred artists to create unique works of art using a wooden box.
Here are the inspiring artworks they created this year: they range in style from whimsical to poignant and thought-provoking. These photos were taken on closing day, when the gallery organized a live auction for each of this year’s 150 boxes. The proceeds support the gallery’s exhibits and community programs.
Two of the boxes were created by members of our art community: Howard Rheingold (a.k.a. Dr. Rindbrain) contributed an illuminated box called ‘Magical’, while Geo Monley and Meryl Rubenstein made ‘Les Puzzles.’
Members of ‘Pataphysical Studios came to cheer for their peers -- Dr. Really was the highest bidder for Dr. Rindbrain’s piece, which was thus kept in the family. After the show, we all went to Stellina to celebrate over a nice dinner.

This musical jewelry box is made of beech wood and it's made to order!
As you can see on the 2nd pic, half of the wooden box is for some small jewelry and the other side has the wind up music movement built in!
This wind up musical movement needs to be wound up from the bottom of the music box (see the wind up key on pic #3) and plays the song of your choice!
