The calm before the......morning......Blast Off!
An amazing pink lenticular cloud hovered over the western mountains at the Bosque Del Apache National wildlife refuge in Dec of 2021. The snow geese and sandhill cranes had not yet fully awakened to take flight out to the fields for the day.
Sky full of cranes sunset!!
Sandhill cranes coming in to roost for the evening at Bernardo Waterfowl management area in New Mexico. January 2025. They fly in from all directions and fill the sky with their amazing sights and sounds. It's an experience to remember always.
There were thousands of cranes/birds at Bosque but I was lucky enough to find a bobcat. There actually were a pair. (see below) The one in front kept watch and the one in back kept going in and out of the bushes. I think there were some young bobcats there! Actually saw these bobcats twice, once at sunset and once at sunrise. I'll post more pix of them later.
Pyrrhuloxia GLEE!"
I finally got a flight shot of a male Pyrrhuloxia!! This is one of those highly sought after birds in the Bosque Del Apache national wildlife refuge in New Mexico and surrounding areas. They are often referred to as "Desert cardinals". I have spent hours hoping to catch one in flight. They are quite skittish and not overly common. Every time I had one in my viewfinder, it would launch the wrong way, head into thick brush and a million other obnoxious things that birds do to photographers!.....BUT....THIS one gave me a couple of shots! He's flying through the leaves of a large Yucca tree. He definitely made my day!
Another image of pre-sunrise on a glorious morning at the Bosque Del Apache National wildlife refuge in New Mexico. 12-14-2021 The sandhill cranes and snow geese were still in their roosting positions from the previous night. It wouldn't be too long before they began their flights to the nearby fields to eat.
