Going through some 2015 images that needed deleting I stumbled across this one. I can't wait to go back to Bosque this year.
A pre-dawn long-ish exposure yielded a bit of an abstract effect as hundreds of snow geese took flight at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge.

Yet another series of Sandhill cranes from the Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife refuge in New Mexico. December 2022. Every day was truly unique and different. The number of cranes, the light, the ice, the temperature.....all varied daily.
This is the time of year that the Sandhill cranes migrate north to their summer breeding grounds. In honor of their great journeys, I am sharing some more of my favorite images. These were all captured in New Mexico at Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife refuge and Bernardo wildlife management area in December of 2023. The never ending fun interactions between these incredibly social birds is what keeps many of us going back....and back.....and...
Festival of the Cranes, Bosque del Apache Wildlife Preserve, New Mexico. Snow Geese and Red winged Blackbirds take to the sky.
Bosque provides food and shelter for many kinds of birds. This are some photos of an enormous flock of red-winged blackbirds. From a distance, it looked like huge schools of fish swirling and moving in unison. It was incredible to watch..
