New Cal. is based on the typeface Scotch Roman; the grid is reinforced by Tartan patterns throughout and the sample text is taken from Shakespeare's Macbeth
Guinness World Records is one of the most famous brands and books in the world (and the world’s best-selling copyright book.) We created a cool, funky new look for the 2009 edition. The concept is urban/skateboard graffiti and we used bold colours to brighten up the pages. We managed to squeeze in even more photographs and designed a new Gazetteer section at the back which uses a travel diary design.

Book design of AOI Images 34: Best of British Illustration 2010.
This year I took the principles of the previous and tried to create something brighter and stronger. I cut the letters for the cover out of paper and photographed them, then enhanced them to look slightly hyper real. Used a striking green that would have standout on the shelf and follow that through to inside the book as section markers.

I was just sketching an idea in Photoshop for my boyfriend. I had no idea the publisher would actually *use* this on the book. Note that this is at approximately true resolution: it was never intended for print, and everything is pixellated, full of JPEG artifacts, and verrie nastie. Gaah!
I was intrigued by the size of this classic tail. It's almost square and fits in the pocket of a pair of Oshkosh B'goshes (www.oshkoshbgosh.com). It was full of black/white illustrations.
