This Blue-faced Honey-eater "Banana Bird" was less than 2m from my dining room window. It seemed to be saying good morning. Photo taken at Goodna, Ipswich, Queensland, Australia.

The Bluefaced Leicester (BFL) is a longwool breed of sheep which evolved from a breeding scheme of Robert Bakewell, in Dishley, Leicestershire in the eighteenth century. First known as the Dishley Leicester, and then the Hexham Leicester, because of the prevalence of the breed in Northumberland, the name Bluefaced Leicester became known at the beginning of the 20th century. In the 1970s, the Bluefaced Leicester was exported to Canada. Exported frozen semen from the United Kingdom is now used to expand the genetic diversity in Canada and the United States. This breed is raised primarily for meat, but their fleece is becoming increasingly popular for handspinning. Bluefaced Leicester sheep may also have brown on their face. The sell record has been set by a brown ram lamb selling for 23,000 guineas.

Blue-faced honeyeater" has been designated as the official common name for the species by the International Ornithologists' Union (IOC).[15] Early naturalist George Shaw had called it the blue-faced honey-sucker in 1826.

hand-dyed Bluefaced Leicester (a particularly soft and silky BFL)

Hello Yarn Fiber Club February offering.

I forgot to post these! I don't post at first because I can't spoil the surprise, then forget altogether. :o

This Blue-faced Honeyeater, (Entomyzon cyanotis) and the Llittle wattlebird, (Anthochaera chrysoptera) has been photographed in our backyard.

It is unusual to get both varieties in the one shot as they both compete with each other as they feed on the Grevilleas in our backyard.

TO EVERYONE OUT THERE, PLEASE TAKE CARE AND BE SAFE.

With the COVID-19 (coronavirus) now rampant in most countries I am spending all my time at home and fortunately have plenty of birds coming to visit due to our bird friendly garden.

Shot it at Gajan Fair.Gajan a Shaivite folk festival, held on CHAITRA SANGKRANTI (the last day of Chaitra..according to eng calendar ,its in middle of april) and on full moon nights up to the full moon of Asadh. The festival is associated with various gods. There may thus be SHIVA's Gajan, the Gajan of DHARMA THAKUR, the Gajan of Nil etc. But the main object of this festival is to celebrate the marriage of the sun and the earth. The reason for this festival is perhaps to appease the sun and pray for rain during the hot, dry month of Chaitra.

The festival is arranged on the premises of Shiva temples. Those who take part in the festival after making vows are called sannyasi or bhaktya. They take sacrificial food and wear uturi (wrappers). Each one holds a staff. They try to satisfy the god through different acts of penance, such as piercing their tongues with nails, jumping upon thorns, walking on burning charcoal, etc. CHADAK PUJA is performed on the occasion of the Gajan festival. During this festival, processions are brought out from the premises of the temple of Shiva and taken to other villages. A pair of processionists take the roles of Shiva and Gauri and render dances. Other bhaktyas take the roles of Nandi, Bhrngi, ghosts and spirits, monsters and demons and dance along with Shiva and Gauri. During this time different verses are recited narrating the story of how Shiva's sleep was disturbed and going on to his marriage, his agricultural activities etc. This festival usually lasts for three days. During the gajan on Chaitra Samkranti, Kali dances are also performed in some places describing how the goddess slaughtered the monster Asura.
