Blue-faced honeyeater

Juvenile Blue-faced Honeyeater from a trip to Bendigo, central Victoria, Australia, in November 2022. I was hoping to capture a sharp image of one of the adults, but unfortunately this did not pan out; I was still very glad to encounter this species. It's amazing how different the faces of the juveniles are compared to the rich blues of the adults.

Rich Hull spotted this tiny meadowhawk at the edge of the woods and called me over ... it was a male Blue-faced. We've seen a few this summer - they hide in the woods (shade) in summer but will come out in the open as we cool down in September. September also brings Autumn meadowhawks - mostly to our north.

Hope everyone enjoyed the eclipse!

Today the temporary pools adjacent to Cattail Pond were full of Blue-faced Meadowhawks (Sympetrum ambiguum). The color of the male's face is often referred to as "China Blue". The face color of several other males seen of the same species was a "lime green" and not "China Blue". This male was a "China Blue" for sure. The 3rd we've seen lately in the same area along Little River. These have become scarce the last few years & they come out of the shade when temps get cooler in Fall (like now!). So, good to see them again. A small dragonfly. Shot in SuperMacro so my lens was right on him ... North Georgia 2 days ago
