A change in hiking plans allowed me to work a bit more on the prototype for my journal bookcase.
Of course my journals are all a part of my bucket list, but the bookcase to house them in is (at least in the design model), pretty epic. With this notch done I can start working on the detailed letter routing for the case. Next comes the stain and then some assembly.
This is of course just a prototype of one case, but when I have all of my measurements, designs, and methods down I will be able to start work on bringing this creation to life!

I guess I'm getting a bit nostalgic as I celebrate six years on Flickr this month.....and so I've decided to post some of my own highlights from my Flickr adventure.
The ad you see above was the first use of one of my images in a worldwide ad campaign. I've been fortunate to have others since then, but this one came about specifically because of Flickr.
The marketing manager of Sensient Technologies was looking for "fresh" images for their ads and came across my Flickr photostream. After we agreed on the terms of a licensing agreement deal, she purchased licensing rights for this photo and then came back and bought rights to a second photo of mine later that year.
This ended up appearing in six different publications that spanned the globe.
I called it the "magic of Flickr" when it happened....
Bit of a bump on today ... with a very enthusiastic offshore wind.
Dropped out to Bass Point on the way home this afternoon to take in the action.
I never tire of a big ocean with the wind and light creating fantastic shapes in the waves and spume.
This one reminded me of a dragon rushing the shoreline.

Single frame raw developed in DxO PhotoLab 7, colour graded in Nik 7 Viveza and Color Efex, tweaked in Topaz AI-3 and finished off back in PhotoLab.
Begrimed English Electric Type 3, No D6844, thats how we knew them in those days, climbs to Lochmuir at Forthar Bridge with a goods train. Instamatic 104, Kodachrome 64.

A bit of a test shot really but 158's aren't that frequent and I was trying this new location to see if it works. Needs a bit of gardening but I think it has potential.

I’ve always been a bit enamored with the architecture of some of the historic power houses in our region. I’ve spent a good bit of time around the Hat Creek and Pit River projects over the years and every time I see one of those old buildings I always take an extra moment to appreciate the details.
Hat Creek Powerhouse #1 was built in 1920 and features some wonderful arched windows and detailed cornice gives it a wonderful façade, to my eyes at least. When I was in the area last September and realized it lined up with the core of our wonderful little galaxy, I figured I had to try and capture it under the stars.
Yes, I’m just now posting this almost exactly a year later. Why? Because trying to make this image was quite the exercise in frustration. The “porch light” burns a great bit brighter than this image really illustrates. Camera settings that lets one expose the darker parts of the sky make quite the mess out of the lower part of the sky courtesy of that light! When I initially tried to process it last year, I got so frustrated I darn near deleted all the files. However, I went back to it this morning and tried about 100 different things and 2 or 3 of them actually seemed to work.
In closing, I would ask that we not go down any rabbit holes about the modern PG&E. They're nobody's favorite right now but their architects 100 years ago did some nice work.

Dinas Dinlle has a large sand and pebble beach with vast areas of sand from mid-tide level. The foreshore consists of natural pebble banks. The popular beach offers views towards the Llŷn Peninsula (Penrhyn Llŷn) and towards Ynys Llanddwyn (Llanddwyn Island) on Anglesey. The area is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). According to the 2011 Census, 77.9% of the population were Welsh speakers.
The cliff above the beach is known as Boncan Dinas and is occupied by an Iron Age hillfort, Dinas Dinlle. This fort has been eroded by the sea, such that only a double semi-circular rampart remains. Finds of Roman pottery indicate a reoccupation in the 2nd or 3rd centuries.] The fort is about 164 yards from north to south by 120 yards with an entrance on the south west. It is possible that a Roman lighthouse originally stood here. It is possible to make out small depressions which are thought to indicate the sites of Iron Age huts and the mound may be the remains of a barrow.

Andrena ilicis. A bit of a mystery bee. It seems to be associated with Woodlands, but other than that I don't have much of a feel for the species. This one was collected in Somerset County Maryland.

Last few days I was planning to pack away holiday decorations...some kind of flu struck us all ..do two things need to rest...many naps many ...it has taken all week to get things packed away in boxes..seems like a whole month has passed....no camera time it was to much effort..so here is old file photo of waiting on a water drop to fall....

A bit of fun! I saw this fish, all alone in a fish tank, in the entrance hall to Angkor National Museum in Seam Reap, Cambodia. Having visited Angkor Wat, we went to the museum to learn more about the history of temples and religions in Cambodia. I just couldn't resist taking a photograph of such a vibrantly coloured and unusual looking fish. I have no idea what it is but I spent ages trying to freeze the fish's motion to get a passable side view through the glass. I've spent less time getting shots of a single lion or leopard!!

I took a bit of a nature walk looking for some interesting pieces of driftwood for my fish tanks. The sun was too bright to do much with photography, but this beautiful butterfly found a thistle in shade and I was able to get some photos.
A bit of litter has been swimming in the middle of the fountain for a good number of days. The beaver statue in the middle of it doesn't approve.

Seems a bit startled at having its photo taken. Found in a stand of turk's cap at the lake. Pollinators love turk's cap and anoles love pollinators so can usually count on spotting an anole there. Hope this one gets a meal soon, looks a bit skinny.

Bit of a mixed bag today, went to find some Green Hairstreaks this afternoon, no luck, too cold too windy but at least it was mostly sunny, returned home after a good 3 hours a little deflated.
Some hours later i walked into the kitchen to switch on the Oven to cook some supper, and I noticed there was a bird sitting on our side fence at the bottom of the garden,
I quickly realized it was a Sparrow Hawk and it was eating something. I forgot about super ran upstairs and took some shots through the window, these we're rubbish so I decided to open the bedroom window and it stayed I put my lens out and it stayed, after some still I changed to Video, and over the next hour + I took 300 stills and 4 4K Videos, from various up and down stairs windows. It flew off after my last video.

Arachnids from the order Opiliones are commonly called harvestmen, harvest spiders, shepherd spiders, or daddy-long-legs (not to be confused with Pholcidae). In Latin, opilio refers to "shepherd". In England, they were called harvestmen because of a superstitious belief that there will be a bad harvest that year if one was killed.

Something a bit local to me - because Colindale Avenue was recently closed eastbound at Colindale Station, the 204 had to be diverted on Montrose Avenue, but in order to serve a stop close to Colindale Station, it was routed back towards Grahame Park Way, then turning round at the roundabout behind me to rejoin the line of route. So, 204s's were serving this short section of road in both directions for a couple of weeks only.
The background has changed completely since 2015, so this is also a good view of the altered landscape at the southern end of Grahame Park, which underwent a regeneration around that time.
