Besides Cinderella Castle, one of my other favorite things to photograph at the Magic Kingdom is Main Street. Walking down this area after the park closes and you all by yourself or family, is very special. You get to enjoy it without all the crowd noise and congestion. It almost feels like your Walt Disney himself looking over his kingdom. Please enjoy and have a magical day!

When I see stuf like this, I always wonder the reason some unknown wrote it. There certainly is a story hear that we will never know, but at least with a photo others may commisserate with the unknown tagger for having experienced the same feeling in their lives.

I know I did . . . and do.

China, Harbin, "Ice & Snow Festival" on Sun Island.

The centre part of the over 120 mtr long & approx. 40 mtr high snow sculpture still in the finalizing carving process is the master piece & the main sculpture of the around 500 small size to larger sizes snow show pieces. The snow sculpture park is located next to the gigantic ice festival area

Sun island scenic area, covering about 3,800 hectares, approx. 35,25 square km, is the second biggest venue of the annual Harbin Ice & Snow Sculpture Festival & has become Harbin's main parkland & recreation area, used all year long.

The impressive "Ice & Snow Festival" is the greatest & unusual one in the world, therefore Harbin is also called the "Ice City".

The city centre Zhaolin Park futures the “Disney Ice Festival” as part of the Harbin "Ice & Snow Festival" / "Ice Lantern Festival". Besides the for floors ice castle with electric elevators there are more than hundred sculptures of different sizes & motives in the Zhaolin Park organized by Disney, at night all sculptures are colourful lighted with LED.

For the "Ice Festival" over a 100.000 Tons of Ice Blocks, cut from the around 1 mtr thick ice sheet covering the Song Hua River, are used for the festival sculptures & carvings from January till March. It is one of the largest of its kind & most interesting one in the World.

The carved fishermen Ice-lanterns can date back to ancient times. It was said that some fishermen made rough & simple ice-lanterns just for lighting. With the time passed, ice-lanterns embodied their cultural features & gradually the artistic fascination of making of ice-lanterns, ice sculptures started in the 1960th, leading to today's impressive Ice & Snow Festival.

Also in the city you will see everywhere ice carvings of all sizes, besides there are several expositions in different Park. The three major Parks are the Ice World, & the Snow Sculptures parks on Sun Island, they are more artistic, the Ice Carvings at the Zhao Lin Park by Disney in the centre of the City. Harbin Ice & Snow World are gigantic & LED illuminated at Night.

Harbin with population of almost 4.5 million, is heralded as the Ice City for its well-known unbelievably impressive ice & snow recreations during the yearly international “Ice & Snow Festival” from the end of December until beginning of March. Harbin is also well known besides his important historic & economic past & present for China, for its historical Russian heritage, this cultural influence is still notable till today.

Due to the Siberian high & Harbin in the Heilongjiang Province location above 45 degrees north latitude, the city is known for having the most bitterly cold winters among major Chinese cities. Winter Temperatures can drop to below -35° C., when I visited Harbin beginning of January the Temperature varied between -20°C & -26°C below, but with dry air.

As well the large Siberian Tiger & white tigers research centre, with about 500 tigers & a few other species, does an important work to prevent this species from extinction. The Research centre can be visited, tours in small a bus are available, passing through wide natural, separated, sections, however the focus point is to save the tigers.

What other occupation besides astronaut combines a fascination with the cosmos and a need for speed?

In the early days, astronauts had to have a background as a fighter pilot or test pilot. Being cool under pressure was a prime requirement for those going into space.

Of course, pilots have always liked fast cars. We have lined up a powerful group of performance cars from the early days of space exploration. In the early part of the 1960s, these cars all had the right stuff to ignite the passions of astronauts and the dreams of ten year old boys.

Our astronauts have gathered at the Chamberlin Observatory, completed in 1894 with a gift of $50,000 from real estate mogul, Humphrey B. Chamberlin. It is owned and operated by the University of Denver and features a 20" refracting telescope. Light pollution from the city means the telescope is pretty well useless for doing actual scientific research these days. The Denver Astronomical Society still hosts regular events in the observatory, giving the public a chance to experience the wonders of the cosmos.

For more information on events at the observatory, go to www.denverastro.org/?page_id=64

This wonderful site has managed to take over my life. I don't think it would have helped to have been clearly warned of the risks, but just in case it could help someone, this is how a warning label might read. However, if you are reading this, the chances are it's too late... ; )

Besides, I'm in the process of creating my first photo book. Of course, it's about coffee.

Besides food, there is also something else I adore: shoes.

I think I should start photographing them, although I shamelessly admit- I have too many.

Here is one of them.

Who besides a cat could look elegant just sitting in a cage?

Snowball and his brother Mel are first time boarders. Snowball has been rather ambivalent towards us the whole time while his brother started out hating us and now loves us.

Funny story about Mel. There are two songs that are impossible for me to listen to without singing along - What the World Needs Now and Downtown. A couple days ago both songs played on the radio and since I'm a self conscious singer I went into the boarding room, turned the volume WAY up and sang along. Every boarder except Mel and his brother looked slightly horrified - a couple even hid under their towels - but Snowball ignored me and Mel got up, started chirping and rubbing against the cage door. This happened with both songs. I wonder if they hear loud music at home.

Happy Caturday: Elegance

... besides Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up

In the morning when the day is new?

And after having spent the day together

Hold each other close the whole night through youtu.be/lD4sxxoJGkA

Besides, the mist is half withdrawn;

The barren mountain-side lies bare;

And sunshine and awaking morn

paint no more golden visions there.

Besides awesome rocks and Jeep trails, Sedona has some of the most beautiful prickly pears I have seen. Healthy looking, sporting many shapely lobes. This composition caught my eye on my way to the far more famous cactus-with-a-puddle shot on Secret Slickrock. I did go there and shot the puddle but kept coming back yearning for something more original. A leading path made of prickly pears, ran through my mind. I went to this location probably five times, each time scratching my head, trying to not get scratched by the plentiful and beautiful cactii everywhere. This is what came out of those thoughts before I pounced. Just enough light to light up the Cathedral Rock with enough light in the foreground for the prickly path with decent sky as a bonus. This is a heavy focus stack to get all thorns sharp as they should be. Nikon Z7, 24-70mm f4 at f9 and 30mm, 1/125 sec., ISO 400.

Besides attracting a wide variety of musicians and other performance artists, Washington Square Park has a small cadre of men and woman who have taken it upon themselves to see to it that the park's pigeon population is well fed.. This fellow comes daily and always manages to attract dozens of hungry birds to his favorite bench in the park.

A male pheasant foraging in the fields besides the road.

Besides trying to capture Hummingbirds in flight, this is another summertime critter that I try inflight captures of. Perhaps even harder than a hummer! It's all good practice and happily in the day of digital there is that lovely delete button! LOL

Besides all the marvelous glacial ice at Jökulsárlón there was also some wildlife around. I caught this eider cruising through the ice.

The eider's nest is built close to the sea and is lined with eiderdown, plucked from the female's breast. This soft and warm lining has long been harvested for filling pillows and quilts, but in more recent years has been largely replaced by down from domestic farm-geese and synthetic alternatives. Although eiderdown pillows or quilts are now a rarity, eiderdown harvesting continues and is sustainable, as it can be done after the ducklings leave the nest with no harm to the birds. The scientific name of the duck is derived from Ancient Greek somatos "body" and erion "wool", and Latin mollissimus "very soft", all referring to its down feathers.

Besides being a phenomenal photographer, my Dad is an incredibly talented guitarist. I grew up hearing songs like Sunshine on My Shoulders and Rocky Mountain High. My dad used to love to take us camping as kids. Looking back I have no idea how my parents had the energy to pack up NINE kids in the van and go TENT camping. for fun?! but they did... I have the fondest of memories, so dear and nostalgic to my heart that even listening to John Denver brings tears to my eyes - I can close my eyes and picture my Dad sitting at the campfire, guitar in his lap, the sounds of laughter and busy chatter around me, the smell of the smoke curing 'round my shoulders like a throw blanket on a chilly night. The sun is still out but it is darker than it should be because the sun is hidden behind the forests of trees and is has sunk into the shadow of the mountain. My Dad's eyes are focused on the fire really without seeing though as he sings and plays his music. I remember him going through a few of the Joh Denver classics, specifically Sunshine on my Shoulders. All is safe, all is well in my flashback to being a child sitting at the fire. I was loved, I was surrounded by all of the things I loved best, set up against the backdrop of the fierce yet oddly comforting mountains.

I miss this place, my beautiful Colorado. But even if I were to go back it wouldn't be the same - would it?

There are people who have carved and imprinted memories with me in those mountains who are no longer here, life is different, I am different and I know this is how it must be. Although at times I impulsively wish it wasn't so. But it is so - and there are many things about present life that bring me joy and happiness including my own children and the memories we have made and will make together. I'll stop rambling for tonight and leave you with a few of my favorite parts of Rocky Mountain High (I know many of you know and love John Denver and probably know the words better than I ;)

Thank you for listening to me, I love you all xx

The shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullabye

Seeking grace in every step he takes

His sight has turned inside himself to try and understand

The serenity of a clear blue mountain lake

And the Colorado rocky mountain high

I've seen it raining fire in the sky

Talk to God and listen to the casual reply

Besides Marvin Windows and plentiful hockey talent throughout time, Warroad is also host to the CN Sprague Subdivision.

Manifest traffic led by CN 3186 comes into Warroad, Minnesota after meeting an empty lumber train just over the border at Middlebro, Manitoba. Warroad is the first in a series of four American communities along the CN Sprague Subdivision south of Lake of the Woods. The Sprague is a Canadian signaled and signed railroad, geographically forced into the States by the magnitude of Lake of the Woods. It's certainly a railroad oddity at the top of Minnesota.

Does anyone, besides my family, remember the Disney Movie The Three Caballeros? It was made in 1944, but my daughters were obsessed with it when they were young (late 1980's) The three Sanderlings reminded me of the title, since the caballeros were birds.

Here's the theme song!

Besides it rolling hills, Malalison Island in Culasi, Antique province, also has a white sandbar that changes its curvature due to strong waves brought in by the typhoon season.

Besides Wahclella, Multnomah, Fairy Falls, Latourell and Gorton Creek, Elowah falls was the sixth waterfall we visited during our two days in the gorge. Didn't have the best light in the afternoon but with a little post processing I still got the dreamy look I was after ;-)

Besides photography, shortwave radio listening (SWL'ing) had been one of my childhood hobbies. In fact, it's the earliest pastime which I enjoyed as a 7 year old, with my parent's vintage Sanyo TransWorld transistor radio. 📻

I restarted this hobby in late 2021 during the Covid-19 lockdowns and have been at it ever since. 😊

Compared to my past watch, camera and guitar collecting hobbies, this one is the least expensive of all. Owning nine radios might seem to be extravagant to you, but the small radios are actually inexpensive.

I actually spent much more on cat food, meds and supplements on my Little Joey. 🐈😻

This is a Copperleaf ... we don't have autumn here in Fl...but we have autumnal looking plants! =^)

Very windy yesterday along the Columbia river in Oregon. Besides pushing my truck around a bit, the clouds were crazy wild. For this shot I pulled into a rest area, but there was power lines, and their "Erector Set" looking towers, plus a Loves truck stop, all blocking the view I wanted. So, I walked behind and away from the rest area until I found this spot, nicely hiding all the crap I didn't want in my picture.

A little side note:

I saw a large crane land just out of sight and even though I didn't have my large telephoto lens, I tried to walking into the shrubs to get a picture. Of course it flew off when it heard me closing in. Branches got in the way and I never got a shot off. Still, it was pretty cool to see it. Also, saw two eagles this day. One in Idaho and one catching a fish in the Columbia. No chance of getting a picture, just trucked on through. The past few years I've been seeing a lot more eagles in Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Utah. Good to see them making a resurgence.

Yes folks, besides having the US Supreme Court convene the first Monday in October, in mid October, it is Stone Crab season in Florida. There is no better food than an ice cold claw with mustard sauce and lemon and a cold beer.

We had some buckets of claws sent to the office today on dry ice and they were delicious. Now I get to enjoy them until May. While the most famous place here for stone crabs is Joe's Stone Crabs, you can get the same quality stuff by driving to Everglades City. It's cheaper and you don't have to wait in line.

Poor Jones has to eat Cactus while we eat Claws ....

But besides some difficulties loading film and metering, I had an absolute blast bouncing along the hiking trail, photographing everything I could. Rain? No problems, the Konica can handle that. Can't see more than a few metres? Awesome! Fog makes photography much easier. :-)

Decided my photostream needed a dose of reality. Besides it's a cold and gloomy day and this reminds me of summer. It's a shot of Portland Bug Light, a beautiful, rather petite lighthouse, and was taken last July in South Portland, Maine.

Not feeling great today.....will get to my contacts when I can.

When I visited Blacktoft Sands this week there were plenty of other birds to watch and photograph (besides the White-tailed Plover). Several Snipe were feeding right in front of the hide and I managed to capture this one just as it arrived. Snipe is yet another declining bird in Britain and across Europe too. It needs soft wet mud to probe for worms and drainage, particularly in the lowlands has made many of its habitats unsuitable. In the lowlands, surveys in England and Wales showed a 62% decline between 1982 and 2002, though numbers have held up better in upland areas. At the last count there were 67,000 pairs breeding in Britain but that number increases to about a million in winter when Snipe arrive from Iceland and Fennoscandia although the winter population has also declined between 25-50% and the winter range has contracted. Compared to body length it has the longest bill of any British bird, but a few bigger birds (Heron, Curlew, Godwits) have bills that exceed the length of Snipe. They use their camouflage to sit tight and will often fly before you have spotted them on the ground. They have a swerving flight and give a flight call like tearing cloth. The scientific name Gallinago gallinago means "like a chicken". Gallinaceous birds are game birds like Partridges, Grouse and Chickens, but the family does not include Snipe.

This is the Outback! We were on our way from Uluru to Allice Springs on Stuart Hwy.
