Besides raccoons & rabbits, I now have groundhogs in my garden, yikes! This guy was doing me a favour & eating dandilions that have taken over my grass!
Besides our tent camp there is a single table on a dune. I was lucky that there were 3 women at the table when the sun rised in the back.
Besides his trusty 1928 McCormick-Deering Farmall tractor made by International Harvester (think steel wheels), this '28 Ford Delivery van was the small farmer's most important piece of equipment on his farm. This was how he got his produce to market.
Crabtree Falls...Besides the beauty of this towering masterpiece, what has always amazed me is that narrow but prominent tree down front and center rooted in that boulder. As a long standing icon associated with Crabtree Falls, it's probably been there for decades and nourished by the waterfall...A testimony of a miracle of nature. I imagine it to be Iike an orchestral conductor directing an orchestra of cascading water, or like a sorcerer in the midst of a wild incantation, or even a slender ballerina, arms raised in a pirouette...The image of that solitary tree will always remain etched in my mind with an endearing image of this waterfall.
Warriors, besides being men who risked their lives, also participated in shamanic activities, since the shaman acted as a warrior when faced evil spirits.

Panzaleo o Cosanga – Píllaro
(400 a.C. – 1532 d.C.)
Under this classificatory name archaeologists have grouped not exactly a culture, but a minor ceramic component of wide distribution, as a rule associated with materials of different ceramic traditions. Vessels of these characteristics appear throughout the Northern and Central Highlands of Ecuador, as well as in the Amazonian area of Quijos. Their distribution suggests a close relation between both areas, the manufacture site being the eastern slopes of the so-called Royal Cordillera.
As far as technology is concerned, the walls are thin and the surface finish has been very carefully done, not to mention the metallic sound. The vessels are of different shapes. The big spheric pots are the most interesting. Many of the latter were ornamented with human faces often represented as “chewing coca” (chagchando coca), and ocasionally covered with masks. Others show unique motives such as tzantzas or “shrunken heads”.
Apparently these potters were a group of specialists in the exchange of products and services, specially those staples from the Amazon valley (e.g. hallucinogenic plants) and shamanic knowledge.
Besides a few friends, Jordan Pond was a peaceful place to be this night. The heavy cloud cover and fog that moved in during dinner sent most of the normal people home for the evening. - Acadia National Park.
Besides trying to photograph the Northern Lights, we also took a snowmobile trip in the snow covered Borealis Forest… as far as you could see the area was desolate, cold, but magical.
- Besides being a sight to behold, the oceans also breathe life into the planet as they produce at least 50 percent of the earth’s oxygen.
- The oceans hold about 321 million cubic miles or 1.34 billion cubic kilometers of water, which is roughly 97 percent of Earth’s water supply. This also includes the seawater weight which is about 3.5 percent dissolved salt and other essential minerals like chlorine, magnesium, and calcium.
- The oceans absorb the sun’s heat, and 30% of carbon dioxide is produced by humans. As they absorb the heat, the oceans transfer it to the atmosphere and distribute it around the world. This pattern of distribution of heat affects global weather patterns and helps regulate temperatures on land. Oceans act as a heater in the winter and an air conditioner in the summer, the natural air conditioner.
- More than 80 percent of the ocean is unmapped and unexplored, which makes it an interesting area of our planet. It is also intriguing for some marine enthusiasts as to how many species there are yet to be discovered. The ocean is also the home to some of the world’s oldest living organisms like Jellyfish, horseshoe crabs and more.
- Oceans have not been immune to climate change and global warming. The year 2020 marked the oceans’ hottest year on record, and warmer waters have created multiple consequences, from changing colors, to endangered marine organisms like corals. Rising sea levels, more frequent powerful storms, plastic pollution and much more has threatened the health of oceans.
Oceans are not just water bodies, they are our source of life
and it is time we protect and save them!
Happy World Oceans Day!

Besides having an interesting look (and at times clownesque shenanigans in their behaviour), these birds tended to be reasonably approachable. This lead to quite a few good photo opportunities.

besides the tree squirrel, another, smaller critter passed here...better hit the l for a closer look!
It's Friday, but the contrary part of me doesn't feeling like fencing it today. Besides, with Americans still in their Thanksgiving holiday weekend, this seems like an appropriate photo to post.
It was taken nearer in time to our Canadian Thanksgiving and captures autumn in the maple sugar bush.

After a whole day of grey, and heavy wind and rain, after sitting on the beach getting soaked to the skin, we had a 30 minute respite...
Besides the reflections, angles are a main feature of this amazing building.
No matter which direction you point your lens.
These images would be beautiful statement pieces in an office board room or entryway. Don't you think?

Besides Frankenstein Trestle and Willey Brook Trestle, another of the iconic Mountain Division spots is Gateway, where the railroad blasted their way through the mountain to reach Crawford Station. Former Maine Central GP38 252, repainted into a close approximation of its original scheme, is leading the special run to Whitefield as they roll through Gateway. If you don't look too closely at the Conway Scenic lettering, or the passenger car behind the 252, it could almost pass for an extra move on the Maine Central forty years ago.
Besides flowers, there are lots of animals on the farm where i work. It seems like there are baby ducks everywhere i turn lol ... I actually got to watch one of them hatch today which was a first for me. This one was trying to enjoy a nice relaxing bath, except that there was a long line behind him ...

Besides being a good hoverer, the Yellow bellied Sunbird has a short and direct flight, due to its small, strong wings. It comes in at a mere 12cm in length.
Besides the traditional composition of the bridge I posted previously, I tried also some other compositions. This angle is less photographed and I decided it would look better in a 4:5 aspect-ratio.
Let me know which composition is your favourite in the comments and why?
Enjoy!

Besides their breeding ranges in Asia and Alaska, Eurasian Dotterels used to be breeding more wide-spread across Europe, including the Pyrenees, the Carpathian mountains, and the Alps. Today, they are only rarely found breeding outside Northern Scandinavia (and maybe Scotland). Members of the northern population pass through central and Western Europe when migrating to the southern shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Some of them even stop close enough to where I live, in open habitat that resembles their breeding range - at least when the fields have been harvested. I found this molting adult bird on an old rapeseed field that had some secondary growth later in the season.
Of course I didn't jump. I didn't even try.
Firstly, I'm not a cat and secondly, I don't suffer from chronic overestimation of myself. In addition, my life and my physical integrity are very important to me (even if it sometimes seems otherwise). However, none of that stopped me from at least climbing up there to take a photo. To be exact, I climbed up there four times until I found a composition that I liked. But who's counting?
The Elbe Sandstone Mountains, including the Uttewalder Grund, where I am at the moment, is really a fantastic playground for the child in me. Probably one of the reasons, besides the photographic aspect, that triggers my fascination for this region.
By the way, when I come back from trips like this I always look like a child who has spent the whole day on the playground, in bad weather and without an adult around.
The more I look at the photo the more I come to the conclusion that I need a flashier jacket. Somehow I almost blend into the background. What do you all mean ?
Was meint Ihr ?

Besides sailing boats and others you find this little one. Every now and then there is a fishing competition and our campers are eagerly. The 1st price is a pork!

Nebem Segelbooten und anderen findet man dieses kleine Gefährt..
Ab und zu findet ein AngelWettkampf statt und unsere Camper sind sehr fleißig.
1. Preis ist ein Schwein!
My second passion in photography, besides long exposures, is street photography, with a mix of architecture. I like them both the same, so i always doubt between street and seascapes...
As the winter approaches, the days get shorter, with lots of clouds and rain.
Perfect for street photography...
and for long exposures :D
Thanks for watching and following me,
your comments and faves are much appreciated!
Have a nice week,
kind regards,

Besides the multitude of squirrels and deer that we saw on Skyline Drive (Shenandoah National Park) we saw a flock of turkey hens. And that is something neither of us had ever seen up there before! Such a cool time to take that drive, almost no people (the weather was yucky) and nearly dark. :) Of to one of our favorite places today, Monterey in Highland County where they are having their Maple Festival. Should be fun!
...besides appreciating the marathon runners as they made thier way along Beach Drive yesterday morning....I turned my head to witness autumn beach art!! yes heaven on earth resides in my nieghourhood!!
...tho tis sprinkling showers of water today on and off.....as I head out for Thanksgiving dinner at my sisters this afternoon...see you all tonight when the feasting and fun is over....

Kitten Beethoven, besides me, taken his place at the table.
I have so many adorable images of my little lad.

Have a happy weekend my friends and for now:
Happy Caterday!
Hugs and love to you by me and Beethoven

Besides the White-lined Sphinx Moths, Lesser Goldfinches were visiting the Musk Thistles. This one waited for the seeds to form and pulled them out of the older Musk Thistles. Hirschdale Rd, Nevada Co, California on 28 September 2017.
Besides iron ore, the port of Rotterdam also dispatches quite a lot of coal to various places in Germany - much of it in heavy trains. Here, 189 084 and 081 are hauling one such convoy past Griendtsveen, 06-05-2023.
Golden Gull or Golden Girl? This waterscape scene was shot at the Ponce De Leon Historical Park in Punta Gorda, Florida. It is a mecca for sunset lovers and plumed bird watchers alike.
Obvioiusly, I'm still having fun using my photographs as the foundation for creating composites (hopefully others besides me will view it as an artistic expression). This composite was created using the original scene shot on the shoreline of Charlotte Harbor in the Ponce De Leon Historical Park in Punta Gorda, Florida (sans the kayak and seagulls). The kayak/kayaker and all of the seagulls were royalty free downloads (my thanks to those photographers!). However, the boat in the background was part of the original scene.

Besides easier depth of field, fine details in wide angle shots I think is the best advantage of a full frame sensor. This is an oldie from Blueys Beach, NSW while on vacation
Besides Christmas, something I look forward to during the long winter, are the return of Snowy Owls. This is a male I photographed just after sunset on a farmer's fence post last January. It's hard to believe that they will be returning to our area very soon.
It was just before I started my chemo treatments and he made me very happy. I believe this was close to the last time I photographed for several months.

Besides the purple beauty, look closely at the lily pads and the large water drops attached along the edges. Surface tension drops. Within the body of a liquid, the forces of adjacent molecules cancel each other, above/below, side to side. But at the surface, there's no attractive force from above so the net inward force causes surface molecules to contract and resist being stretched or broken.
Surface tension also allows small insects and lizards (such water striders and basilisks) to "walk on water" because their weight is not great enough to penetrate the membrane.

White, waxy and brilliantly beautiful!
Besides attractive leaves, Calathea warscewiczii also produces showy cone-like inflorescences. The bracts that cover the cone are creamy white in color when they first emerge and gradually turn to yellow and take on a pinkish hue with time. They are arranged spirally around the cone and the rims of these bracts fold over the edge, which make the entire cone look somewhat like a rose flower when viewed from the top!
Calathea warscewiczii is one fussy prayer plant to grow. It needs bright, filtered sunshine. Direct sun can burn the leaves of this plant. It needs to be grown in an area with high humidity and protection from winds, like Windows to the Tropics at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.
It is also picky about the medium it's grown in. It does best in a well-drained mix rich in organic matter. The fibrous roots need to be in contact with moist soil at all times. Mulch generously to keep the roots moist and cool. Waterlogged conditions should also be avoided as roots can rot.
A prayer plant relative and a member of the Marantaceae family, this plant has a curious habit of folding up its leaves as if one puts two hands together during prayer when night falls. This herbaceous plant is native to Costa Rica and Nicaragua and produces lanceoate leaves that have a dark green background and an attractive fishtail pattern on the upperside of the leaves. If conditions are optimal, the leaves that are covered with fine silvery hairs leaves, which make them furry to touch, can grow up to almost one foot long. The leaves have a maroon colored underside.
