Lots of wooden benches located throughout the Arboretum which are generally gifts from former student groups or individuals.

The Newfound Gap parking lot marks the Tennessee - North Carolina border on US Route 441. I did find the benchmark. This mark is 5,048 feet above sea level. This shot looks out toward North Carolina.

As a photoshop n00b, I'm beginning to like the effect of colored flashlights and speedlight for b&w photography.
The right color or the right amount of light can be used to subtly lighten a spot or detail, or blacken it out completely....
And the more I think of the composition of this picture, the more I grow to think that it's crappy...
The right side is to heavy for the empty left side, and the perspective leads to nowhere....

Benchmark and kicking stone at the New Quay Teignmouth. Kicking stones were used to deflect carriage wheels away from the walls of buildings. In this case it would have been horse drawn carts moving to and from the New Quay built in c1820 by George Templer.
