The beautiful almost Harverst Moon just before sunset seen from my area in New Westminster near Vancouver, BC, Canada.

It's been awhile again since I have been keeping busy and haven't had too much inspiration for photos, but I never miss a chance to capture the beautiful moon if it arises.

About this photo: I knew that the moon was going to rise around 7pm local time, so while we were out walking our dogs I figured I would drag my camera around. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of the almost full Harvest Moon rising near Mount Baker. I wasn't just if it was going to happen as there were some clouds behind Mount Baker.

To my delight I noticed the moon rising from behind the clouds and was so happy that Mount Baker was still lit up by the last rays of the sun as well. I waited until the moon was just above the clouds to capture this photo. I was very happy I dragged my camera along for a few photos of this.

I hope you like it?

Some information on New Westminster: New Westminster is a city that belongs to the Greater Vancouver area. New Westminster is located about 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver along the Fraser River. This beautiful city is also called "The Royal City". The city also reminds people of San Francisco, especially because of the steep hills in town. So be prepared for those hills!

New Westminster was founded by the Royal Engineers under the command of Colonel Richard Clement Moody, and named by Queen Victoria after her favourite neighbourhood in London, Westminster. It is also the oldest city in western Canada and it was the capital of British Columbia between 1858 and 1866.

Located right in the middle of the Greater Vancouver network today, New Westminster is a charming mix of old and new, with a picturesque waterfront and fabulous Victorian architecture. It's a vibrant and progressive city with a community rich in tradition and respect for its heritage.

Come and visit this beautiful city when you are in Vancouver and find out for yourself how charming this city is. There are many things to see and to visit in New Westminster such as: New Westminster Museum and Archives, Irving House, the Samson V Paddle Wheeler, New Westminster Quay Public Market, the Antique Alley, Queen's Park, the 7-11 cycling Trail and much more.

Clear, cool crisp winter air and amazing final light of the day made for an excellent afternoon to get out for a wander - and a need for another stop as the light got more intense.

Elk and Beaver Lakes are conjoined lakes located in the district of Saanich, BC on Vancouver Island.

The size of the entire park is 443 hectares with 15 km (9.3 miles) of walking trails. An approximate 10k (6.2 miles) trail will take you around both lakes, there are several stops to enjoy benches or beaches along the way. It is abundant with birds and wildlife; while walking yesterday I saw many kinds of birds that I couldn’t identify with the exception of an eagle, robins, Canada geese and a great blue heron.

Popular for fishing, the lakes are stocked with rainbow trout in the spring and fall. There are also bass and perch that were introduced to the lakes years ago.

The lake is also the home to Canada’s national rowing team along with many local rowing teams.

"In 1872, Elk/Beaver Lake became the water source for Greater Victoria. Elk and Beaver Lakes, once separate, were joined when Colquitz Creek was dammed. In 1896, filter beds were constructed after Victoria residents complained of fish and tadpoles in their drinking water. The lake remained a water source for some areas of the region until 1977." ~ CRD ~

The Okanagan is not a particularly lush region but the unusual amount of rain sure worked its magic. Everywhere I look I see scenes like this.

Generally looking North from Christmas Hill in Victoria B.C.

A dry year, the grasses and other vegetation already dry and brown.

Such a view!

Left of center on the horizon you can see the white Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, located on Observatory Hill.

Completed in 1918 by the Canadian government, it has been designated a national historic site of Canada.

Another gem I came across on my discoveries yesterday - tide was coming in, but when it is out I can imagine you can walk out a fair distance - beautiful, calm and quiet - just the birds chatting.

Beautiful Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada

About this photo:We just returned from a family visit/road trip from Vancouver to the province of Alberta and Saskatchewan. During this trip we stopped at a few places to take in the beautiful scenery, especially in the Canadian Rockies. It had been about 12 years since I was here and at that time I owned a point and shoot camera of 1.3mp.

I was quite excited to stand here again after all these years and take in the beauty of this gorgeous lake. It is my favourite lake in the whole world so far and I wish I could capture the feeling of standing there amoung those high mountains!

Some information about Emerald Lake and the Canadian Rockies: Emerald Lake is one of the most admired spots in Yoho National Park, with an unmatched diversity of both activities and landscapes suited to for any traveller. This beautiful place was discovered in 1882, when famed mountain guide Tom Wilson was led lakeside while rounding up a group of horses that had gone astray, and was immediately taken by the vivid Emerald-coloured waters.

Emerald Lake is part of the Canadian Rockies which are located about 800km (500 miles) east of Vancouver on the border of the province of British Columbia and Alberta. There are 7 National Parks that belong to the Canadian Rockies which strectches out over an area of 25,000 square km (15,625 square miles).

These are the National Parks that belong to the Canadian Rocky Mountains: Mount Revelstoke National Park, Glacier National Park, Kootenay National Park and Yoho National Park which are located in British Columbia and there is Banff National Park, Jasper National Park and Waterton Lakes National Park which are located in Alberta. This amazing area is known for its beautiful blue-green lakes surrounded by mountains, glaciers, rivers, waterfalls and a diversity of wildlife. One can enjoy the endless views and there is a great variety on walking/hiking trails for everybody to enjoy.

You might wonder how these lakes have such a colours. Well, here's a short explanation for that: These lakes are can thank their brilliant blue-green colour to the light filtering effect of rock flour (a powdery substance that the glaciers grind off the mountain rocks) in the glacial runoff (meltwater). The rock flour that is suspended in the water filters out much of the light spectrum except for blues and greens leaving this remarkable turquoise blue color.

The rock flour might also leave that milky look to the water. That's why each lake looks different and each lake might look different on the same day. For example, on a calm morning or evening, the lake might look like a mirror and the colours is barely visible. But on other times of the day the lake is blue. It all depends on the weather conditions and how much rock flour is present in the water.
