Finally, Vancouver first big snow storm is here and the forecast got it right this time. I went out this early morning and spent most of the time in Downtown to get some photos. Throughout my journey, I saw quite a few cars spinning around.
I guess many drivers in Vancouver are still not ready for the snow. Usually for weather like this, I prefer just taking public transit instead. Hopefully everyone will stay warm and safe! :)

Just returned from Rennell Sound - awesome place out on the coast - all logging roads in to it, but so worth it.

Clear, cool crisp winter air and amazing final light of the day made for an excellent afternoon to get out for a wander - and a need for another stop as the light got more intense.

Elk and Beaver Lakes are conjoined lakes located in the district of Saanich, BC on Vancouver Island.
The size of the entire park is 443 hectares with 15 km (9.3 miles) of walking trails. An approximate 10k (6.2 miles) trail will take you around both lakes, there are several stops to enjoy benches or beaches along the way. It is abundant with birds and wildlife; while walking yesterday I saw many kinds of birds that I couldn’t identify with the exception of an eagle, robins, Canada geese and a great blue heron.
Popular for fishing, the lakes are stocked with rainbow trout in the spring and fall. There are also bass and perch that were introduced to the lakes years ago.
The lake is also the home to Canada’s national rowing team along with many local rowing teams.
"In 1872, Elk/Beaver Lake became the water source for Greater Victoria. Elk and Beaver Lakes, once separate, were joined when Colquitz Creek was dammed. In 1896, filter beds were constructed after Victoria residents complained of fish and tadpoles in their drinking water. The lake remained a water source for some areas of the region until 1977." ~ CRD ~
Reeds line the edge of the lake used as a foreground of the lakes reflections of the light coming around the mountains.

Interestingly, this mushroom/fungi is used in traditional Asian herbal remedies and is also being studied as possible complementary cancer treatments.
