Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos horribilis)

Knight Inlet, BC

This young grizzly cub was the highlight of our entire day and we spent some time observing from a distance. Its personality was so playful, almost like it was performing for us. This cub was born in Feb or March of this year (2021), so estimated to be about 3-5 months old.

I don’t normally post a series of photos, but this little one is far too adorable not to.

Female grizzlies typically have their first litter when they are 6 years old with mating season occurring in late May to early July.

Eggs fertilized in the summer will not implant until the bear goes into hibernation in the fall. This delay helps ensure the female (Sow) has sufficient nutrients to handle the pregnancy. Cubs are born in the den in January to March during hibernation, and will remain there until spring.

A litter is typically 1-4 cubs. Grizzly bears are not monogamous, so litter mates will often have different fathers.

Advice from a Rainforest

• Shower often.

• Live green.

• Have a fertile imagination.

• Always keep growing!

Almost everywhere you look where there is some sort of slope there will some form of water flowing downwards.

Goldstream Provincial park is a perfect place to explore and find new seasonal falls.

Sunset is always nice especially you are enjoying it with your precious one. I came to Kitsilano Beach hoping for a dramatic sunset just like last week. The sunset was nice but not as crazy as I saw before.

Just when I was about to leave, I saw this old couple sitting together enjoying the sunset. They reminded me how important it is to enjoy such beautiful view with someone you truly want....have a great week :)

After many travel restrictions in BC are lifted, my fiance and I decided to have a small day trip to Bowen Island.

The island itself is pretty small that you can even get to different places on bikes. Because there are few spots we really want to go, we decided to drive instead. One of my favorite spots is

Cape Roger Curtis Lighthouse. This area is pretty chill and you can easily spot seals or sea lions around. :)

Located in Rearguard Provincial Park on the Fraser River along highway #16 in BC.

They are 20 ft (6 m) high and 240 ft (73 m) wide.

One of only two waterfalls on the entire Fraser River, the other one very near by known as Overlander Falls.

This is the farthest that Chinook salmon migrate up the Fraser River, the largest and strongest of the Pacific salmon.

It is a very long swim from the ocean to spawn here, a 1287 km (800 mile) journey up river then to get past these short, but tough falls.

Walking on a trail in the forest is so peaceful and calming as the snow softly falls around you.

Water over time has carved a little canyon with a waterfall at the end in the cliff’s sandstone. Moss has now partially covered over it creating a little green oasis. It is a beautiful not so ‘hidden’ gem while out on Sombrio beach.

Sadly people have carved their initials or names in the moss which has taken away some of the brilliant green moss. There has been some erosion on the creek bed with past heavy rains/storms making it a bit wetter access this time. Mother nature is always rearranging our landscape.

Life has been a bit busy lately, so because of that there hasn't been a lot of posts like usual. I will be back to almost daily postings soon, or almost daily postings depending on wifi availability. Thanks for sticking around and being a part of my photographic journey.

Little Herring captured inside the large mouth of the Humpback Whale

There are couple of spots I really like to go in Vancouver during the sunset time. Kitsilano Beach, English Bay, and Terra Nova Park are some of my favorite spots.

I always think that sunset photo is all about timing. Because the color of sunset can change quite randomly so it is wise to be at the location ahead of time to prepare yourself first so that you don't miss the moment :)

I took a ride down near the river this evening to see if anything would catch my eye. I saw some backlit reeds and started making pictures. Then I turned around to see Mt Baker all lit up. A tug boat slowly made its way up the river into my composition just as a murder of crows flew overhead. Glad I took the long way home.

Taken with a Fujifilm X-T3 and XF 90mm f/2. Processed in Capture One Pro.

A break in the heavy rains today - the river was running very full and fast after the last several days of heavy rains. Was hard to keep the mist off of my lens - worth it though :)

According to a local legend, indigenous people in the area found the skeleton of a Caucasian man near the waterfalls, thus giving the river its current name ~ Wikipedia ~

A slightly different view of these popular waterfalls, taken while laying on a shelf of the sandstone cliff. If you look closely on the lower and middle right you can see shell fossil remnants in the sandstone.

People in my neighborhood are very generous I think. They spent time putting up Christmas lights and paid the electricity bill for making the night more beautiful for us!

This is the shot taken in my neighborhood on No. 2 Road Richmond.

Christmas is really in the countdown i.e. just one week away.

I wish all my Flickr friends a very happy holiday season in 2009!
