Salmon Glacier
The 5th largest glacier in North America and the world’s largest road accessible glacier is a remnant of that last great age of glaciers; the Fraser Glaciation period.
Located just north of Stewart and only accessible by driving through Hyder, Alaska. You will drive through Hyder at sea level and then the road quickly climbs and heads back into B.C. The road was originally built for Granduc Mines. There are several gold mines along the route, some long ago shut down with others going full tilt.
Driving through remnants of avalanches and slides from the latest storm, it is not a road for the faint of heart. Shear cliffs down one side that are not forgiving if such an accident were to happen to put you over the edge.
Going from the first view point of the glacier, known as the ‘toe of the glacier’ to the summit viewpoint at 3370 ft the landscape drastically changes. The trees at the summit are of the alpine variety, very stunted and unusual growth. And of course snow drifts and hundreds of waterfalls. Absolutely stunning surroundings the whole 37km drive.
This photo is so grainy that I really shouldn't post it, but it's also so yummy looking, I couldn't resist!
A wonderful walk in a coastal rainforest today.
Coastal rainforests are among the rarest and most productive ecosystems on the planet providing critical habitat for an amazing variety of flora and fauna.
Close to 25% of the world’s temperate rainforest is in BC with most of it being coastal. BC's coastal rainforest is different from other temperate rainforests because it has more coniferous trees than deciduous trees. Compared to tropical rainforests, temperate rainforests decompose slowly, resulting in a rich vegetation base with a variety of mushrooms, mosses and plants.
I cannot remember the last time I took my camera with me and had such a relaxing time. I really miss my weekend where I don't need to plan much and just go out and shoot. Unfortunately, I will still be very busy for another week or two before I can take more time to do some photography.
That moment of time where I sat at Iona Beach Regional Park with my camera was very enjoyable. I was thinking to stay longer but the mosquitoes were so aggressive that I got so many bites afterwards :(

Spring rains bring brilliant greens and heavy flowing creeks and rivers, my favorite time of the year on the island.

Sunrise over Mount Baker (located in Washington State, USA) seen from my backyard near Vancouver, BC, Canada.
A quick update: It's been a while again since I have been active here. Those who remember, I have been raising a puppy for the BC & Alberta Guide Dogs to become either a guide dog, an assistance dog for a child with autism or a support dog for someone with PTSD. My doggy left in November for advanced training in Edmonton to become a support dog for PTSD.
Sadly enough she did not make it as she was a bit too distracted in some scenarios. But because she is such a sweet and fairly calm dog otherwise they have decided she will be a "very special placement dog". She will become a pet/support dog for someone who doesn't qualify for a fully trained service dog. While she has been waiting for a suitable family, she has come home and has been with us since mid-December!. She will be leaving us again at the end of January as they found a family with a child that has numerous health issues and would benefit from connecting with a dog. Hopefully our doggy will fit right in and still be able to make a difference in someone's life. In the meantime we will enjoy the time we have with her!
About this photo: The benefits of having dogs in the house is that you get up fairly early and may catch a sunrise. That's what happened in this case. I was out in the yard with the dog when I saw the sky turn different hues of pink. I ran in to grab my phone and camera to snap a few photos.
We just received about a foot (30cm) of snow and that made scene even prettier! You can see Mount Baker (located in Washington State, USA) in the background. This photo was taken from my backyard in New Westminster near Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Some information on Mount Baker: Mount Baker has a height of 10,781ft (3286m) and is an active glaciated stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the North Cascades of Washington in the United States. Mount Baker has the second-most thermally active crater in the Cascade Range after Mount Saint Helens.
Some information on New Westminster: New Westminster is a city that belongs to the Greater Vancouver area. New Westminster is located about 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver along the Fraser River. This beautiful city is also called "The Royal City". The city also reminds people of San Francisco, especially because of the steep hills in town. So be prepared for those hills!
New Westminster was founded by the Royal Engineers under the command of Colonel Richard Clement Moody, and named by Queen Victoria after her favourite neighbourhood in London, Westminster. It is also the oldest city in western Canada and it was the capital of British Columbia between 1858 and 1866.
Located right in the middle of the Greater Vancouver network today, New Westminster is a charming mix of old and new, with a picturesque waterfront and fabulous Victorian architecture. It's a vibrant and progressive city with a community rich in tradition and respect for its heritage.
Come and visit this beautiful city when you are in Vancouver and find out for yourself how charming this city is. There are many things to see and to visit in New Westminster such as: New Westminster Museum and Archives, Irving House, the Samson V Paddle Wheeler, New Westminster Quay Public Market, the Antique Alley, Queen's Park, the 7-11 cycling Trail and much more.
A rare Northern Light event over Vancouver Island was exciting while it lasted.. Thanks to an almost Full Supermoon the show quickly faded away
Another thing I love about sunset is that how the shape of the mountains are highlighted. Even though I couldn't see the mountain clearly, the lines are just so popped and made a good photo.
I came to Terra Nova Park at the right time as the sun was about to set. The color changes so rapidly that I didn't really have time to think and try to get my shot. I really love that ship in the far distance :D

So happy to be back at work and getting views like this. Oh Vancouver, you can be so pretty.
Shot with my Fujifilm X-T3 an XF 55-200 zoom. Shot raw then processed using Capture One Pro. Though really just selected the Velvia film profile with a few minor tweaks from there.

I cannot remember the last time I went to a theatre for a movie. I am sure the industry is suffering big time as nobody wants to go watch a movie these days. Ever since we are in Phase 3 of re-opening, some theaters decide to open with strict restrictions.
Even so, I don't think many theaters will make enough money unless they fit more people :\

Something a little different and a break from bears for tonight 😊
Clayton River cascades through a canyon of cliffs worn smooth by water and the years ago glacial action ending with Clayton Falls flowing into the ocean. Named after John Clayton who was a trader/storekeeper, he took over the Hudson’s Bay Company operation when it closed in 1882.
The Clayton Falls hydroelectric generating station was built in 1962 to reduce demand for diesel fuel. This is a run-of-river facility that requires no storage of water. In 1991 the generating station was upgraded to further reduce the demand for diesel fuel. The generating capacity of the hydroelectric facility was increased from 500 kilowatts to 2,000 kW of power.
The diesel generating station supplements hydroelectric operations to provide the total electricity required by Bella Coola and surrounding communities.
Spent an awesome morning with 4 beautiful black bears while they were fishing with some wonderful new friends.
While this guy was patiently waiting for the fish to jump up the little waterfall for his next meal, we were patiently watching him and his friends. He did end up with 2 fish while we were there.
Poor guy seems to have hurt his paw though and was limping pretty good.

Standing between one and 1½ m (4.9 ft) high, the great blue heron is the largest heron in Canada.
This heron was fishing in the final light of the day of on Quadra Island, BC.
I couldn’t help but watch and photograph with the amazing sunset in the background tonight. This was only superseded by the 2 grey whales swimming by very close to shore!
I have been on and off the grid lately and have lots of catching up to do with editing now that we have electricity and wifi. Stay tuned, there will be lots of images to follow from our time away exploring Vancouver Island.

Today's morning was very epic with the fog. I had a struggle as I wasn't sure if I should bring my camera with my daily morning jog. But I realized how small X100V is compared to my Sony A7r4 and my previous Fujifilm X-H1.
I decided to bring my camera with me for my 10km jog. It turns out it was the right choice. The lights coming through the fog were so soft and beautiful. During my run around QE Park, there were so many opportunities for photos....

Some trees just stand out - this one barely surviving and covered in moss and then a layer of snow did to me yesterday while wandering along the shores of the Koksilah River - Vancouver Island, BC
