Gathering all my Barbie Basic dolls

This little fellow never stood idle,it was always on the lookout for nuts and when it found them, all it wanted to do was to protect them and have it for himself!

P.S:I happen to find all Squirrels extremely cute! Would love to have this one as a pet!

*Picture property of Iplehouse* Today is a lucky day... I ordered Carina basic on a layaway... can't believe I'm getting my first Iplehouse doll... she's 65cm large, I ordered her with make-up type B (like on these pictures) and large breasts.... also with some fashions, wig and shoe set.... GOSH, I'm sooo happy !!!

Vancouver, BC. Mark

I quick pic of my Kit. I have a few things in the mail. I'll do a full kit pic on Saturday when I play.

Aidan Mac Diarmuid doesn't need much to be guilty of being gorgeous...

Dog tag: FR Francisco

Cuff: Marcela Gorga

Designed as a basic frame to test new joint styles and proportions. Tried to keep specialty parts to a minimum and allow for a lot of easy changes for customization.

I often get requests for instructions, and while I'm happy to oblige now and then, I usually find it's far more fun to build your own thing, even if it's initially a ripoff of another design. This basic frame should be easy for even smaller collections to put together, and super easy to variate off of to make your own designs. Nothing groundbreaking in the joint tech, but several different styles are used to give a basis for learning/using.

Before going on, I should note that I re-sized the screenshots from 1024 x 768 to a 4K resolution of 4096 x 3072. On that note, resolution ties in a bit with the scaling of virtual land. For, if you think about it, a sim, or region, is essentially a 3D canvas with its own scale as a type of resolution. In other words, the size of a sim or region is the size of the canvas - the scale of the land provides the environmental boundaries of the 'box' that one creates in. The prim count is something like a virtual material pallet, or what gives the limits and boundaries of how many 'colors', or what types of brushes can be used in the 3D environment. But, this is more important when it comes to prim counting and (for SL) land impact on the level of creating objects and uploading mesh models onto a grid.

For shading, the number of objects and their placement matter on various levels depending on how the shading settings interact with the objects. On these bare bones settings shown in the screenshots, the shading effects only the surface texture of an object - the prims, sculpties, mesh objects, land and water meshs, etc.

In this screenshot, under the '[TOR] Midday - Anime Ciel' Windlight setting, the lighting of the sun is set to where the light interacts with the top surface of the tigress avatar, brightening the chest, while the tummy and most of the legs interact with shading. The prims give a better, basic visual of what is happening, showing how the surface of the vertical (the Z axis) interacts directly with the sun's lighting while the horizontal (the X axis and the Y axis) interact more with shading. Sure, it's being Captain Obvious, but sometimes these basic elements are so obvious that one can forget that they're there, and can forget to take into consideration this play of interaction of lighting and shadows, even at their most basic elements, both in a virtual and real environment. And yet it is in shadows and lighting that visual art exists and takes form. Even with colors, lights and shadows change the way in which we see the colors. Light itself is said to have all the spectrum of colors within it. Shadows, in a sense, consume the light and change things, such as the intensity of a given color, giving us the distinction between say, pink and red, or blue and violet and purple - all of which have a bit of each color in them. But yet they are distinct from each other, and are given their most elemental distinctions in the primary colors, such as red, blue, green, and yellow. However, these distinctions are made visible to us in the context of how light and shadows interact with each other. For instance, where the blue texture of the Tigress' shorts is most highlighted by the light of the sun, it becomes nearly white. Where the shadows interact with the shorts, the blues in that area draw close to black. Yet, in both instances, neither the lighting, nor the shadows are intense enough to completely consume the color blue to become completely black or white.

One could also see in the black bra worn shades of grey. Whether there are 50 shades displayed on the bra, I'll leave that open for interpretation. =~.^=

Okay, this year's ToyFair reveals were kind of a let down, Ever After High wise. We didn't get any new lines that we haven't seen yet, I was hoping for Legacy Day Wave 3, or Getting Fairest Wave 2. Even new basic dolls like Daring or Hopper, or Melody. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the reveals, just kinda disappointed. So let's go ever each doll from each line first:

1) Bunny Blanc- I love how her hair is sculpted, basically everything else about her. Buuuuuut, the one thing I can't stand is how lifeless her eyes are. She literally looks like she just committed murder. So, her facial expression is the only bad thing about this beauty.

2) Alistair Wonderland- I like his design, I only wish that his final product will come with the necklace and the design on his shirt. Other than that, I absolutely love this guy. One more thing though, his jacket needs to be longer.

3) Darling Charming- I am in awe of how great she turned out. Although I love this doll as much as I do, I still dislike that she doesn't have knee-high boots, or the fact that she isn't going to be released with a sword. Her face kinda reminds me of Moxie Girl, and I never really got into those. Her hair colors are perfect, kinda hard to believe that she Dexter's twin.

4) Rosaballa Beauty_ ROSABELLA IS LIFE. Her design is just absolutely perfection from head to toe. The only thing I'd change is her color palette, I love it, but I'd rather have her with just plain brown hair. Her colors should have been various tones of red and maybe a bit of green, to represent the rose?

5) WTW Maddie- I am absolutely in love with this doll, she might be my favorite Maddie to date. That hat is what I was expecting for her signature doll, and I'm so glad they gave her hair more color rather than just the basic purple and turquoise.

6) WTW Apple- I am so on board with this doll! I wasn't sure how I felt about her based on the promo pics, but now that I see her, I just love it. P.S. the red eyebrows are a great touch.

7)- WTW Lizzie- Wow. Just wow. This doll is incredibly stunning. I love everything about her, especially that crown and collar piece. She's tied of being my favorite with Maddie in this line.

8) WTW Kitty- LOVE. Can't wait for this girl! The green streaks in her hair looks great with the purple! THAT TAIL. OMG, I'm speechless.

That has been my opinions for the EAH booth of ToyFair 2015.I really wanted to see Faybelle and WTW Raven, but for some reason, they didn't make an appearance.

Did you guys like the reveals? Were there any dolls you didn't like? Any you can't stand? Any you love? Did you guys like the reveals? Any dolls you wished Mattel would have revealed? Tell me what you guys think. :)

Thanks to Dudewithdolls I now fixed several MH dolls with glue seepage. His tip was to use baby powder and it works! This is an example from my own Robecca. On the left is where she had glue seepage. New and improved one is on the right. She still needs a wash or 2 to remove the powder.

A basic "skeleton" for new design variations based on my Magic Folding "Fidget" Cube.

First of all I analyzed the design of the cube looking for the parts that were really needed to make it work. The result was a working "skeleton" of the cube which wasn't more than the hinge plates, the SNOT brackets and a few plates as "connectors" between them.

I have to admit that I kind of bought her for the dress. But I grew to like her, her hair is a fantastic colour. Too bad her skin doesn't match my pivotal bodies.

KOOL AID KID

FORT BRAGG, NORTH CAROLINA

It is September 1967. I’m 19. I’ve finished school and have a decent job.

“Fighting soldiers from the sky”

But have no car, again. I’m 1A in the draft and had my summer

“Fearless men who jump and die”

Need to depend upon Larry L to take me to work and bring me home.

“Men who mean just what they say”

Eddie S stops over. He “Whatcha doing?” Me “I don’t know, what u doing?”

“The brave men of the Green Beret”

“Supposed to start my junior year at Temple,” Eddie says, “But don’t know what to major in?” “Well I just wanted to get through the summer without being drafted” I replied. (As U.S. troop strength in South Vietnam increased, young men were drafted for service there and from a pool of approximately 27 million, the draft raised 2,215,000 men for military service in the United States, South Vietnam and elsewhere during the Vietnam War era).

“Do you want to join the Army on the buddy system?” Eddie asks me.

“And do what? Was my reply. “Go airborne” Eddie said.

“The Ballad of the Green Berets” was a number one hit for five weeks in 1966 on the Billboard Hot 100 and in fact was named Billboard’s #1 single for the year in 1966!

The U.S. Army parachute team known internationally as Golden Knights.

So we told our parents what we wanted to do and went to a recruiting office and signed the enlistment papers and were told to report on October2, 1967.

Eddie and I went back to my room at my parents and put on the turntable –

“Fighting soldiers from the sky”

“Fearless men who jump and die”

“Wait! What did he say?” I asked –“Fearless men who jump and die?” “Nah” Eddie said - “He said Fearless men who jump and TRY!” “I don’t think so” I said.

“Maybe it was Fearless men who jump for PIE?” Eddie said. It didn’t matter of course. We already enlisted and had a report date.

We reported on October 2 and took our oath to protect the United States and got on a train. We stopped in Baltimore and picked up more ‘cruits either draftees or enlisted guys. Then we made another stop in Washington, D.C. for another load of recruits before we arrived in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

We were bused from the train station to Fort Bragg which is the largest military installation in the world with more than 50,000 active duty personnel.

As we stepped off the bus the Drill Instructors started yelling at us “You’re a bug!” “Lie on your back and put your feet and arms up in the air!” “Now rollover and give me ten!” “Ten pushups!” “Now!”

I learned how to peel potatoes “The Army Way” when I had KP (Kitchen Patrol)

After learning you do what the Drill Instructors tell you to do our first stop was the Reception Station for in-processing, physical examinations and receiving our army clothes and, oh yeah, getting a buzz cut hair cut.

Our eight week of Basic Combat Training consisted of receiving instructions, practice of those instructions, exercise and testing in twenty-nine subjects.

Me wearing my dog tags in the barracks. (Photo by Eddie S)

We were “Buck Privates” with the lowest rank in the military with a military enlisted pay grade of E1 making about $99.00 a month.

Are we having fun yet? Mom would mail me packages that had Kool Aid in them as well as other goodies about once every two weeks. I would mix the Kool Aid with the water in my canteen. Thus I became known as the “Kool Aid Kid.

I’m in top and bottom left side photos and all on the right side while Eddie is in both of the second row photos as well as the left side of the third row.

Boot camp consisted of getting up at 4 am and going on long runs before breakfast. To enter the Mess Hall we had to swing ourselves on horizontal bars.

Since I was overweight I was not permitted to eat any potatoes or dessert and had to give them to those who had to gain weight.

Our training consisted of Character Guidance, First Aid, Guard Duty, weapon cleaning, and individual weapons qualification, inspections, individual tactical training, close combat training, CBN (Chemical, Biological and Nuclear), hand grenade throwing, bayonet drills, hand to hand combat and weapon qualification on the firing range.

We went on plenty of marches and our physical training included the forty yard low crawl, a run/dodge/jump course, climbing a horizontal ladder and a mile run all of which was part of our Physical Combat Proficiency Test.

The military did ask me if I wanted to go to Warrant Officer’s School because I had 20/20 vision in one eye and 20/15 vision in the other eye.

“And do what?” was my reply. “Learn to fly helicopters” they said. Since the Viet Cong were shooting them down as if it was an arcade game I said “No”.

Playing Army as a kid was fun. Being in the Army was not. When I was going through the 100 yard infiltration course I thought “What am I doing here?” My first time away from home I decided then and there I wasn’t going to jump out of any airplane. No way.

Thanksgiving meant just a few more weeks and basic would be over

I’m sixth from left top row and Eddie is fifth from right first row.

More than 200,000 young men underwent basic combat training at Fort Bragg during the period 1966 to 1970 and at the peak of the Vietnam War in 1968 Fort Bragg’s military population rose to 57,840.

Who knew North Carolina could get so cold but I’ve never been as cold as I was those two and a half days of bivouac in December 1967.

Then it was over. Carrying those sand bags I lost fifty pounds and went from 240 to 190 and a 42 inch waist to a 36 inch waist.

Now it was time for graduation. A parade, rest and relaxation before getting ready to ship out.

Eddie would be assigned to Fort Banning where he would learn to jump out of planes and I was assigned to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas where I would receive AIT (Advanced Individual Training) to become a medic.

***My doll on the right is wearing 1997 Far East Fashions.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I remember ogling "Basic" Mulan back in late 2010/2011 when I got my "Disney Dolls Identification and Price Guide" by Margo Rana. I don't recall ever having seen this particular Mulan in stores--I was very keen for the Real Riding Khan gal as well as the Secret Hero one. I hoped to one day have her, and even tried to track one down on eBay. But since this is such a simple doll, who only came with shoes and a dress, I didn't want to splurge on her. In 2012, my first doll joined my collection. She is the lady on the right, and is by far more sentimental to me than the other. It was shortly after my dad passed away. My cousins' now wife went to her parents' house to retrieve all her childhood dolls, while I was out fishing with my uncle. When I returned (mind you I was feeling disgusting since I had gotten sea sick and barfed), I entered a doll covered living room. Colleen, who had not gone on the boat, had spent the afternoon finding the dolls and looking through them with Chrissy and my second cousin. Knowing how much I loved Disney, Chrissy said we could have "Basic" Mulan. Time has not been kind to this poor doll. She has a greasy face, as she started to decay. She's also kind of homely--her facial screening is much harsher than my other doll's, and the sticky build up doesn't help. I actually bought all my Mulan fashion packs just for this girl. I felt so sorry for her state, and having been ignored for many years. I thought she was worth the splurge, and she's always worn different fashions over the years, depending on my current mood. I love this doll because she was a thoughtful gift, and very much in need of a new home/loving family.

Although I'll always be sentimentally attached to my first "Basic" Mulan, I have to admit that I was very excited to acquire another. My lady on the left side of this photo originated from the "Bead Blast Barbie AA lot" of 2015. She was easy to identify on the spot, what with her non-articulated arms, but large feet and articulated knees. But had she just been a rolling, loose head, I wouldn't have been so quick to id her. That's because she is far more attractive and aesthetically appealing than my first "Basic" doll. Her features are fainter and painted more delicately. Plus she doesn't suffer from greasy face (which is common in these dolls from what I've seen). This is why she got the first original outfit I found, also in 2015. She made a far better representation of "Basic" Mulan, so she is my model for display. But I don't think my first gal minds wearing her fancy eBay fashions.
