2013

Basic infantry soldier of Kamarios Alpha army.

Arriva North West's MX61 ALU (4477) is seen on Strand Street (A5036), while operating a 500 towards Liverpool Airport. The 500 operates up to every 30 minutes between the John Lennon Airport and City Centre. The livery seems a bit basic (seeing as it's one colour), however, it does still look smart. MX61ALU was new in December 2011 to Arriva Merseyside, but not initially for use on the 500. It is one of three DB300s that were branded up for a service upgrade in September 2016. It is a VDL DB300/Wright Gemini 2

Basic frame to build on. Can be used Mobile Frame scale.

Why have two headlights when one will do, who needs a starter motor when you have a strong right arm, if the windscreen is small enough one wiper will suffice, no air conditioning, just take the roof off, no wing mirrors, just look over your shoulder, door handles, don’t be silly

One of the things I discovered that I really liked about my first experience photographing birds, and especially birds in flight, was reviewing photos of flocks of flying birds and finding interesting patterns or formations or "stories" within those random flocks. That is, sometimes really fun or amazing, even artistic groupings occurred when I would crop in on a few of the randomly arranged birds I had captured in the wider frame of the shot. In this case the original frame had nine snow geese in total, with eight of them more or less in a line and one flying just above that line. But when I cropped it in to just these four, it immediately reminded me of a military basic training drill, with a drill instructor (the top bird) squawking orders to the "marching" cadets. In the larger frame with more birds, the formation was not as tight and top bird's open bill was less noticeable because it was so much smaller. Not sure if the "basic training" metaphor works for everybody, but it sure did for me!

This shot was taken in the Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

Daily Photo - Central Park in the Fall

I had spent the afternoon alone while traveling (as usual, it seems) in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the middle of New York City. It sits on the Eastern edge of Central Park. It was a little cold outside, but I decided to walk across the park anyway, just as the sun was setting. As I moved through the trees, I found this little place and thought it would be fun to share.

HyperMac Review

I have a new HyperMac Review here on the site! It's an amazing device, and even if you are not a photographer, you will probably find a reason you need one!

Basically, it is an external battery that you can use to power up your Mac laptop and your iPhone. I keep running into situations where I am running out of battery power on my iPhone and/or computer, and I just am not near a power outlet.

I bought mine from the Hypershop just recently, and I could not be happier! Maybe the worst thing is that all my friends are always using it to charge up their iPhones too... It's like I'm the guy at the party that brought the beer!

New Version of Woopra Out

You guys probably know how much I love Woopra... I did a little Woopra Video Review here on the site several months ago. The product is even better now... and you can get the basic version for free. If you want all the cool features, you can upgrade, but that's up to you! Anyway, I continue to make it part of my web-life... and I am lucky enough to be friends with the clever guy behind it. But, I'd use this thing even if I didn't know the guy... !!

Airports are generally pretty drab places or else filled with the gaudiness of taxfree shops and the like. But there are exceptions such as South Korea's wonderful Incheon Airport (see my www.flickr.com/photos/87453322@N00/4640923071/in/photolis...) with its real botanical garden.

Singapore's Changi Airport is also very plant friendly albeit not in a garden form but rather with bright horticultural displays. Though the basic structure remains the same, the flowers vary. Today the focus is on Hydrangeas, and I was greeted by this pretty bouquet. So - nearly missing my onward connection - Sony stopped me to take this shot.

Plants would seem appropriate for this airport. It was named so it is said for the great Changi Tree which once stood here. Towering to some 76 metres, it was cut down during WWII so that it couldn't be used for triangulation by the Japanese enemies.
