Fun watching this Nuthatch.

Illuminated windows and their reflections in the channels. Just love these precious minutes, when all the lights are balanced nicely. This is a slightly different angle from a motive I posted before, liked the composition of the other one better, but the light is stronger here. What do you think?

A rowans view. The plan was to set out at 5am and get to the Lakes for sunrise. Take some long exposure photos at Brothers water. Get a good walk in, my target was a High Street round. Down for sunset and photos of the lake to Helvellyn from Pooley Bridge. Plans! My favorite shoot of the day was on the flanks of Gray Crag of this rowan tree. Balanced on the slope it was hard to get the composition I wanted. My first attemps were to go for a portrait shot of the rowan, but in the end I liked this one as the rowan is presenting its daily view of the world. Lucky rowan! Good job I carry my OMD EM5 II with me. This photo makes think about my approach to photography at the moment with tripods, filters, and full frame and then get this shot on the hoof tramping the mountains, my first love. Go figure?

Balanced Rock is one of the more prominent rock formations in Arches National Park. Standing at a whopping 128 feet (39m) tall and weighing 3,600 tons (4 million kg), strikes an impression of amazement as it appears to defy gravity. Erosion will eventually collapse this wonder of nature.

On Saturdays I meditate at Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, California. There is a small cascading waterfall in the garden I pass by every time I go.

I took bracketed exposures, but I processed a balanced HDR photo from just one RAW exposure, and carefully pulled the curves to make the scene pop.

The shadows are balanced...

It's all about balance and a little touch of structural support so as not to squash any of the many admiring tourists who visit by the 1000's per day. Balanced Rock, Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Dear all, If you like the pic you can fave it and/or leave a comment. But please don't flood it with group awards. These will be deleted. Thanks

This is a 7 shot panorama of the milky way rising over balanced rock. Taken in early May at around 2:30 am. Hope you all enjoy and thanks for any constructive comments.

Trying out something new. Texture here.

The series.

I was roaming around at the Forum Shops at Caesars, an upscale mall in the Caesar Palace casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The mall is modeled after the old Rome at the time of Caesar, and has a fake sky. I was more interested in hunting around with my camera than shopping.

I processed a balanced, a soft, and a paintery HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, then desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive feedback.

We spent a weekend at the Black Rock Desert in Nevada to attend Balls XXX, the biggest experimental rocket launch event in the world. The camp is in the middle of a dry lakebed, also called playa, the same place where Burning Man takes place. The playa is big, about 200 sq mi (520 km2). The night sky is very clear, you can see the Milky Way and millions of stars with your bare eyes because there is no light pollution. We arrived on Friday night, and I took this shot at around midnight when most people already went to sleep. Look at this shot fullscreen to enjoy.

Nature's presentation of Balanced Rock, located within Arches National Park, just seems so remarkable the way that it is perched on its base. When this July golden hour photo was taken, the temperature was still 100 F. If you look for them, you can see two couples that are on the trail. I considered removing them, but decided that they provide some perspective of size. The La Sal Mountains which are part of the Rocky Mountains can be seen at the right of the photo. Arches National Park is located near Moab, Utah in Grand County.

Garden of The Gods

New version of my old photograph.

This silver lined fritillary butterfly perched atop another of the zinnias in the pick your own garden at Tine and Toil Farm. She stayed perched and sipping merrily no matter how close I got!

On the edge photography

I mentioned the car from Canada in the parking lot earlier. As the sun got closer to actually rising, I could see its owner busily taking pictures. I thought I would take "a photograph of a photograph being taken" O.K. so I'm not the most imaginitive person in the world...but when I looked at the photo in the cameras LCD screen, I said "Yikes, that is a really thin ledge he is out on". Remember, it is a lot darker in person than the picture thanks to the wonderful light gathering ability of the sensor.

Being an accomplished linguist, I walked over and said "That is a really thin ledge you are on, eh"

He just smiled and said: " Thanks but I have to finish this killer pano, eh"

So the moral of this fable is: How do I spell dedication? C-R-A-Z-Y C-A-N-A-D-I-A-N

I ran into him later at the Balanced rock at Lee's Ferry so I can proudly say: "No Canadian was harmed in the making of this photograph" ;)

They say a well made broom is able to balance on it's own. As you can see this one does. I bought it at the Vermont Country Store in Vermont USA. It is made by the Amish. It is now 4 months old, used almost daily and still stands on it's own!

Well, I had trouble with Flickr today so this photo didn't actually make it into the Flickr Friday! :-( Ah well, it's still a fun shot! LOL

18 wheelers roar across Interstate 10 through Texas Canyon in Chochise County AZ.

The Walnut Fire is winding its way around the quartz monzonite spheres of the Little Dragoons; precariously balanced rocks that were formed 50 million years ago.

The modern noises of the highway went mute and sounds of ancient drums and ritual filled the night. One can only imagine the Apache tribes who once lived here.

Wow thanks in Explore for all the views and kind comments!!

Arches National Park, Utah. Balanced Rock is about 128 feet (39 m) high, with the balancing rock rising 55 feet (16.75 m) above the base. The big rock on top is the size of three school buses. (Wikipedia)
