Sometimes you get lucky and get a great pic without any planning or traveling. That's the Peaks of Otter in the distance.

Backyard Hummingbird

Henderson, Nevada

December 2022

In the middle of this back yard, I almost missed seeing this crane, quietly roosting in the background. Not an everyday sighting for sure!

The Eagle Nebula (catalogued as Messier 16 or M16, and as NGC 6611, and also known as the Star Queen Nebula and The Spire) is a young open cluster of stars in the constellation Serpens, discovered by Jean-Philippe de Cheseaux in 1745–46. Both the "Eagle" and the "Star Queen" refer to visual impressions of the dark silhouette near the center of the nebula,an area made famous as the "Pillars of Creation" imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope. The nebula contains several active star-forming gas and dust regions, including the aforementioned Pillars of Creation. (Wikipedia)

Four hummingbirds visit my backyard twice a year. They're fun to watch. Not easy to capture shots of them, but it's pretty rewarding when I do get something a little decent.

I had this hawk come in the backyard today and stay for over 2 hours. I believe he is an immature Cooper's Hawk. It is hard to tell the difference between the Cooper's and the Sharp Shinned. So if someone has knowledge of which one it is, than post it.

I have feeders in the yard, and their diet includes smaller birds. It was also a really cold day, so I think he was also getting out of the cold wind and enjoying the warmth of the sun.

As we shelter in place, I couldn’t resist picking up my camera and trying to get some images of birds in my backyard. Goldfinch in my Cherry Tree.

A snapshot of my usually dry creek-bed, in the backyard.

Explore # 214. We have a couple of these nesting in our backyard and they're real active right now... had to grab my camera and take a photo of one this morning.

The Pleiades also known as the Seven Sisters and Messier 45, are an open star cluster in the constellation of Taurus.

This guy came into the backyard yesterday. I went out to make sure the deer could find it's way back over the fence. Instead he started following me around. Had to finally make enough noise for him to leave. Then hung out in the green belt, munching away for about 20 minutes. Before he left, I told him to watch out for the local Cougar.

Backyard impressions. Polaroid I2 film camera.

Female House Finch. Another nice day to photograph birds in our backyard.

Cockatoos came to my backyard in the rainy Sunday afternoon.

There was no cockatoo’s food, so I gave budgie's seed-bar.

One cockatoo “stole” whole the bar from my hand^^

This fellow usually does not show up in our backyard until after dusk but this day he arrived in the early evening. Raccoons tend to be very timid so I had to take the photograph through the window.

I asked the WhatBird community, "I suppose this is a Mockingbird but it was behaving more like a Roadrunner. It was running along the backyard lawn and pecking at the ground. The lawn is burnt up from drought and excessive heat."

One WhatBird member replied, " Northern Mockingbirds tend to do that. There as many theories as to why they do that, but no definite conclusions. One of the most commonly and the most likely theory is that they are trying to catch food by scaring the bugs with their shadow." Another WhatBird member replied, "What I've always heard was flashing the white wing patches scared bugs."

This autumns leaves piled up on the rocks in my backyard. Soon to be mulched and reenter the cycle of life!

Thanks Lynnie...you have the best "props"! I was attempting to capture some of the lush color of large format polaroid film in the style of Marie Cosindas.
