My backyard friends came to visit me last month! Living on a bluff brings me a variety of wildlife throughout the year. As you can tell, the changing of the leaves had just started, still have a ways to go before more beautiful colors are seen, if the rain doesn’t damage them first! For the flowers are great blessings.
For the flowers have their angels, even the words of God’s creation.
For the flower glorifies God and the root parries the adversary.
For there is a language of flowers.
For the flowers are peculiarly the poetry of Christ.

This photo captures the tranquil beauty of a well-maintained backyard in a suburb north of Atlanta on the last day of April. The scene features a lush, green lawn. A stone retaining wall provides a rustic backdrop, complementing the natural greenery of the trees and shrubs. The brick and stone facade of the house, with its arched window and downspout, adds a charming architectural element to the serene setting. The vibrant shrubbery and the towering tree create a peaceful, inviting atmosphere, perfect for enjoying the mild spring weather.
While sitting out on my backyard patio trying to figure out how some Ninja Squirrels were getting into my bird feeders, I noticed some fluttering between branches near my small pond. As took a closer look I couldn't believe my eyes...WARBLERS!!!! Not quite sure why they paid a visit as I am in the middle of a large metropolitan city...but thankful they did... I only managed to get limited snaps with my camera as I wasn't properly prepared...and spent the next several days attempting to get some some decent shots with these uncooperative little guys...Hopefully Ill have more to come as Ive seen 10 different species so far...
..I think I caught "Warbler Fever"! :>)
While doing some backyard birdwatching the other day, it was just so hot there wasn't much going on, so I decided to close the window and put down my camera.
Moments later this hawk swooped down and got one of my doves. It happened so quickly it took a few moments to register what I'd just seen. While I watched, it started plucking the feathers so I grabbed my camera to get a few shots.
Just goes to show you never know who's going to show up next. Or when.
** Taken through the window so not as clear as I'd like.
Female ruby-throated hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) approaching a bee balm flower in my garden. I have bee balm, red hummingbird salvia, and red crocosmia planted along the back porch, as well as two hummingburd nectar feeders nearby. I llove to sit on the porch and watch these remarkable little birds dart back and forth from flowers to feeders. Backyard bird.

This broad-tail hummingbird is enjoying the feeder in my backyard. I'm sitting in a yard chair, waiting to catch it as it comes to and then leave the feeder, just out of the shot. It's been a very wet spring and the trees are very green, creating a great background. I love the translucent wings and the ruby flash of his gorget. I think that means thank you, but he shows it when he's happy or mad.
A vivid portrait of a hummingbird captured mid-flight, highlighting its detailed plumage and dynamic motion. The green blurred background complements the bird's colorful appearance.
It's interesting all our locals have claimed this community fence to hangout..some sit & call out to there mates, once arrived they both go off to the feeders or into the trees.

This guy came into the backyard yesterday. I went out to make sure the deer could find it's way back over the fence. Instead he started following me around. Had to finally make enough noise for him to leave. Then hung out in the green belt, munching away for about 20 minutes. Before he left, I told him to watch out for the local Cougar.

"And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game."
