101 Oil Studies, No. 44
Objective: Portrait created largely during life drawing sessions
Painted in 5 sessions: 21 Oct to 4 Nov 2024, but primarily during life drawing sessions at the New Mexico Art League studio, 27 Nov and 3 Dec.
Pigments (all Winsor & Newton Artists' oil colour): Burnt sienna, indigo, French ultramarine, yellow ochre, permalba white. Mediums: Oleogel.
Centurion OP DLX oil primed linen, 30.5 x 40.6 cm (12 x 16 inches)
Process: After a burnt sienna wash, I used charcoal transfer to bring the basic outline over from "Backlight" (Oct 20 drawing from my Figure Studies album). Figure was mostly completed in the two life drawing sessions; background and touchup in home sessions.
A night shot of the IJsselmeer (lake IJssel). Long exposure (8 sec) from a setting sun on the lake, some sheep were kind enough to sit still. Some weren't ;-)
Photo taken in Stavoren, the Netherlands after a warm and sunny summer day. The sun had just set behind the two small lighthouses which function as traffic lights for the boats that want to enter the marina. It was a great day in Friesland!
Pic taken on an old military bunker from WW2.
Light setup:
1 (obvious) backlight: 580EX triggered with Pocket Wizard TT5
