In the backdrop of the magnificent snow-capped Tianshan mountains, 2-10-2 JS Class locomotive, 8366, makes its way south across the flat spartan landscape on the fringes of the Gobi Desert, with a rake of loaded coal wagons from the Er Jing underground coal mine to Nanzhan, Sandaoling Xinjiang Province, northwest China. We were very lucky to have such clear weather for the shot.

The Looking Close on Friday theme is paper designs and I found some papers that I think were designed to be used as backdrops- very cool.
The Garden of Flowing Fragance (Liu Fang Yuan 流芳園), is amongst the largest Chinese-style gardens outside China. Liu Fang Yuan reflects traditional Suzhou-style scholar gardens and features a 1.5-acre lake, a complex of pavilions, a tea house and tea shop, and five stone bridges, set against a wooded backdrop of mature oaks and pine. It is located at Huntington Library in San Marino, California.
The Umhlanga Coast is a magnificent stretch of the South African shoreline. It shows off the splendour and wonder of this country in a tranquil display that remains extremely powerful.
