In the backdrop of the Surajkund lake, during the spring season, every year from February 1–15, a colorful traditional craft festival of India is held in the precincts of Surajkund. This fair was first started in 1987. Traditional craftsman (artists, painters, weavers and sculptors) from all parts of the country participate in this annual celebration named as the “Surajkund Crafts Mela” or "Surajkund designer’s Village”. Designer items created by 50 best designers and craftsmen in wood, metal, bamboo, iron, glass, textiles and stone can be seen here. This Mela (fair) is visited by lovers of arts and crafts from all over the world. The fair is held with a different theme every year on Indian culture and crafts.
The theme, specific to a state of India, is depicted at the entrance to the Mela grounds and provides an ambience of that particular state with characteristic colors, materials, architecture, furniture and decorations. The crafts on display in the stalls (400) is of particular crafts of that state. The Mela also includes a food festival covering some of the popular cuisines from different parts of the country. Entertainment in the form of famous rhythms and dance of folk theatre are also held here during the festival
During 2009, with Madhya Pradesh as the theme state, 50 crafts' persons from SAARC countries, Thailand and Egypt also participated in the Mela. The show was titled "Hemvati-Khajuraho" as a part of the 23rd annual Surajkund Crafts Fair event. Sanchi Stupa, (a world heritage site in Madhya Pradesh) formed the backdrop for the festival.
This is the same display as last year, although last year I hung product off the lines. I found it was a bit heavy and weighed down the clothes line, so this year I decided to print out some of my product shots instead.
People commented on my display all weekend and said the pictures looked great! I actually had a few people asking about my photography and one who wanted to buy one off the display!! LOL!! I was pretty pleased!

In five months of research, Human Rights Watch investigated 94 cases of air, artillery and ground attacks by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to discern the circumstances surrounding the deaths of 510 civilians and 51 combatants, nearly half the at least 1,125 Lebanese deaths during the conflict. Of the approximately 510 Lebanese civilian deaths investigated by Human Rights Watch, at least 300 were women or children.
July 29th, 2006 protest march from the Israeli Consulate to the American consulate, Toronto, in support of the Lebanese people caught up in the deadly Israeli attack on their country. Demand for an immediate ceasefire. Unfortunately, no-one in "power" appears to be listening. Innocent people, the majority of whom are children, continue to die. How many perished today, as the buildings they were hiding in came tumbling down around them? Places where the media either cannot or dare not penetrate? This could have been STOPPED WEEKS AGO! "Two soldiers" are no justification for this kind of carnage- the "response" to their "kidnapping" serves as a cynical excuse for Israel to destabilize a neighbouring country, compromise their sovereignty and elected government's authority. Nato forces, if used, should be there to keep the peace, NOT prop up a puppet government put in place by occupying forces. Let's hope that isn't the next strategy...

They wrote the names of the dead children on their plastic shrouds. "Mehdi Hashem, aged seven - Qana," was written in felt pen on the bag in which the little boy's body lay. "Hussein al-Mohamed, aged 12 - Qana',' "Abbas al-Shalhoub, aged one - Qana.'' And when the Lebanese soldier went to pick up Abbas's little body, it bounced on his shoulder as the boy might have done on his father's shoulder on Saturday. In all, there were 56 corpses brought to the Tyre government hospital and other surgeries, and 34 of them were children. When they ran out of plastic bags, they wrapped the small corpses in carpets. Their hair was matted with dust, most had suffocated ...
